The benchmark for all other 50's is 50/1.4 Summilux ASPH. The new 50/1.5 Sonnar is a close second according to a well respected Leicaphile that lives in Vancouver BC. 😉
Depending on the money that you want to spend these are the best at the top of the class.
I own the 50/3.5 Heliar as well as the new 50/2.0 Heliar both of which are top performers in my book. The 50/3.5 was rated the best by Keppler in PopPhoto but if speed is an issue then this is not a very practical lens choice.
