Best Deal ON an IPOD??? HELP??

I know this doesnt really belong on this forum, but with so many people with Ipods I thought someone could help. I dont really care if the Ipod has video or not. I just want one with at least a 20gig hard drive. I have an alpine stereo unit in my car which allows the ipod to connect to the cd player. This would be nice because I would be able to eliminate all the cds in my car.

If anyone has one they would like to sell or could send me a link to a place to get one relatively cheap let me know.

I am a student, so at school I could get a new Ipod 30gig w/video for $260.00 after tax. This is $60.00 of the retail price.

iPods have a pretty set pricing. You won't find a better deal than your student discount.

You could also check B&H, though. When I was looking around Christmas time, they still had the older (non-video) models on their site, but the prices weren't that enticing. To me it was worth it to spend the extra few bucks to get the new iPod with video.

If he uses it in his car through his CD player, its no worse than his stock radio. Its only using the headphones at high volumes for prolonged periods that make it bad for your hearing. They sell (expensive) noise cancelling headphones which allow you to play your music at a much lower volume to save your hearing, though.

Replace those evil ear bud with a set of Grado SR60 headphones. Ugly, but very efficient with great sound.

I wish it would be louder, connected to my car stereo it is too quiet. You need some oomph to apreciate ACDC at 140mp/h with the hood down. 😉

The newer iPods allow one to set a maximum possible volume, then use the wheel to control volume from 0 to that level.

I have the Grados and they are great for home use, but a bit (!) bulky for wearing around town. I prefer these -- and they happen to be on sale.

Well, all iPods allow you to control the volume. The problem is, with the cheap earbud headphones you get with the iPod, if you turn the volume down to a safe level, the music is washed out by the noise of the outside world. So if you want to protect your hearing, your best bet is to invest in some nice headphones which act as earplugs, basically, so that you can have your volume at a safe hearing level, and you won't hear all of the outside noise.
