Best digital camera that will fit in my pants pocket?

Even with skinny jeans* the Ricoh GR is a no-questions-asked winner.

*I wear these jeans and the GR still fits in both front and back pockets, albeit with a little coaxing.

I wear a belt pouch, rather than stick it in my pocket, but I have no regrets about buying the Ricoh a few weeks ago. I did love the GRD2 and GRD3, so I was familiar with the controls. But I think that even without that familiarity, I would be praising it just as highly.

I bought a Canon S-100 specifically because it's a good fit for my pockets.

Pocket cameras aren't going to match the specs of grownup RF's and DSLR's. But, the camera that stays home because it's a pain to carry all day takes no pictures.

The Ricoh GR and the Sony RX100 II are the stand out cameras in this class... Nikon Coolpix A too.

There are lots a great pocketable cameras out there.. But a lot depends on needs.. Your typical p&s size sensor cameras start to top out around 400 in terms of high iso.. This is where the cameras like the rx100 or Ricoh gr or Coolpix A start to shine.

Baggy front jean pockets are no issue for these cameras. As the pocket gets tighter, the ones w/ a grip make it easier to get them out when u need to hurry. This is one of the reasons I stuck a Franeic grip on my rx100. The gr does not need it. The GR is a hair thicker and about 3/4 to full inch longer. The longer length makes it easier to get out of some pockets..

The Sony faster lens f1.8 at the 28 fov setting somewhat makes up for the slower high iso capability (iso 800 is max i would use for color). On the other hand the GR is good to about iso 3200 for color. I feel that the gr is pretty good at f2.8 already and is fine by f4-5.6. Where the Sony need to get to around f2.8 to be where the Ricoh is wide open. If I am going to shoot w/ b&w in mind, I am not worried about even going as high as iso 128000 (but then again I am ok w/ noise.. Grew up on pan-x, plus-x and tri-x.. Pushed tri-x can get pretty grainy).

I own both the Sony and the Ricoh. I tend to use the Sony when I need a zoom and its mainly daylight situation. The Ricoh right now is my default "carry everyday in your pocket camera".
