Best films for half frame shooting?

Back when I had a half frame camera, I ran Elite Chrome 100 through it because otherwise my scans were too grainy for my taste. Based on some recent 35mm scans I've done (and farlymac's photos in another thread), I think Kodak BW400CN would also work well.
 
But the Pen EE-2 only goes up to ISO 400?

The selenium meter cells are often dead at this age, at which point you have a camera with 1/40 second shutter time and adjustable f/stops. If yours is working, you get either 1/40 or 1/200.

I just put XP2Super in mine, put an 4-stop ND filter on for daylight use (that's now ISO 50), and set the aperture to suit. Take the filter off when needed. XP2 has a lot of latitude.
