best lens for 90 mm lens

now i looking for 90mm lens so what is the good lens for my P

Voigtlander 90/3.5 apo for $300 ,jupeter 9 for $150 or 90m F4 uncoated Elmar for $200 which is best? please help OR anything eles 😕

I think the best 90mm lens is the best 90mm lens for the best 90mm lens. 😉

The choices you give are actually a matter of taste. The uncoated Elmar is prone to flare, but has a nice "old" look (in the pictures); Jupiter owners swear by it, but some also swear because of it (the quality control is a misnomer, there is no control...Russian Roulette anyone?) The Voigtlaender is a nice modern look.

If I were you I'd shop around for an 90mm Elmar-C; they can be found (used) for about $250; they are sharp, more flare resistant than any of the lenses you list.

If you can afford it, get the 90mm Elmarit (f/2.8), 1st Version...but I'm guessing that you have a screwmount body, and that lens is M-mount. Not cheap; at least $450 in good condition.

If you can find the Canon 100mm f/3.5, it is fantastic. Absolutely tiny, and extremely sharp.

the best 90 for the job is the 85/2 serenar lens. big, heavy and sharp as hell!

or, if for the p, why not a 100 to use the 100 framelines without hassle?
the 100/3.5 is tiny, light and sharp or the 100/2 if you want large AND expensive.

chuch bettis from here has a nice 100/3.5 for sale for $175., send him a p.m., he's a good guy to deal with.

I paid under $50 for my uncoated Elmar, and $60 for a mint J9 that was calibrated for the 51.6mm Leica standard.

The Elmar-C is M-mount, the Canon P is screwmount.

However, the Elmar-C is probably the best bargain 90 for M-mount cameras out there.

What about a nice coated 9cm f4.0 Elmar. I like mine.

But if best is what your looking for depending on your idea of best the VC is most likely the best bang for the buck.

I just gave a man a bargain on a sad-looking but optically maybe-perfect uncoated 90 Elmar...quite sharp, prone to flare, focuses fairly close, not a great idea for color at high altitudes...a more-soft-than representative image is on my gallery and color (in this case) is perfect. 1937. If B&W only I'm not sure you'd gain much with a coated example.

Isn't the 3.5 Canon actually just an Elmar? Same size (neither are especially "tiny" except when compared to SLR lenses).

I'm pondering the CVs, 75 and 90. Will probably go with the 75 because I want larger aperture...if I stumbled across a black Canon I might leap (my 35 f2 Canon's *much* better built than either of my CVs), but don't want any Serenars.

The P's 100mm and 50mm frame would make 75 or 85 easy to estimate.

the 100/3.5 is very tiny, really.

i thought the 100/4 was small till i held the 3.5.

i have no idea what it's relation to an elmar is.

WTT an excellent-plus Leica IIIC OR excellent-plus 35mm 3.5 Summaron with hood for: optically perfect black Canon 85 or Nikkor 1.8 or 90CV or 75CV... 😉

the cv 75 (had one) is on par with the canon 3.5 size wise.

those 85's are heavy beasts though, and much bigger and fatter.

many of the canon lenses were serenars that were rebranded when canon decided to go with only the canon name. no optical differences.

Those prices are too high!
I got my VC 90/3.5 used for around 200 Euros, a Jupiter-9 should easily be availabel for less than 100 USD, and there are plenty of 90/4 screw-mount Elmars around 100 USD on Ebay.
BTW, the VC 90/3.5 is a great lens, very flare resistant, very sharp, nice bokeh. The J-9 is also a great lens (esp. the bokeh), but very flare-prone, and I would not use it on a non-FSU camera - the focus-issues because of different registration distances are already visible with 50/2 lenses like the J-8 if used wide-open & close, and with an even longer focal length they will be worse.

check Canon 100/3.5 all black version (the last one), very light and sharp. not up to leica's build quaility, but good enoguh.

My logic for wanting f2 or thereabouts has entirely to do with more light and less DOF...when a person signs up for Canon Ps, he's given up hope for light equipment 🙄

i paid 85 bucks for a really ugly one (good glass and smooth though) and about 125 for a nice clean version.

chuck bettis has one for sale now at 175.
knowing chuck's gear i bet it's in prime shape.
