Hey all,
Haven't been around in a while. Nice to see that the ol' site is vigorous and kicking.

As the title says, I need to find a good photo blog/storage, etc. solution for posting sets of images of some assets I've inherited. For example, I need to be able to direct potential appraisers/auctioneers to a set of pictures, without them necessarily seeing the other sets I have of, for example a toilet under repair.

I have a basic flickr account, but it doesn't appear that their upgraded version offers passwords, only "family or friends" lockability. As such, a person would have to log into such an account, and that's just too much trouble.

I have seen Pbase accounts that have pass protected galleries, but Pbase doesn't have nearly the storage that Flickr does...something like 400 megs for $23.

SO....please help. I actually need this yesterday, so don't delay in helping a punk like me!
Cheers

If you have webspace, you may be interested in 'Gallery' http://gallery.menalto.com/

It allows you to have seperate accounts for different things (for example, I have family photos under one account, and general photos under another, and then I had Stag weekend photos which were only for those attending).

Easy to use as well.

Jon,
I could, and I've done that in the past for different things.

Now however it would probablly not work for a few reasons.

A.) to lock accounts out as friends only, the people who see those galleries would have to have a yahoo mail address

b.) I would have to create and keep track of numerous yahoo addresses

c.) It's possible I will need to switch some photos back and forth between the galleries.

But, it is certainly an option, and one that I'll seriously consider if nobody has a better recommendation.

try shutterchance.com, I used to use that for blogging but got sick fed up of the need to post something on a daily basis...unlimited storage though and you can disable right click for downloading so your images are safe...probably won't suit your needs though.

Well,
Smugmug doesn't charge a "small" fee, but it does look like a worthwhile site.

I'm frankly surprised that there isn't a very conclusive review anywhere about photoblog sites....there are reviews for email providers, isp's and any number of other services, but photoblogs are apparently still the Wild West.

At any rate....looks so far like either the good ol' pbase or Smugmug.

google web albums, or facebook, both do what you need, just keep private, then give out the specific url's to the sets or galleries you want to give access to.

Looks like I'll be using the Picasa (google) webalbums for the time being. It's not ideal, but it was really fast uploading since I already use Picasa. The unlisted feature looks like plenty of security, we'll see how well it works.
I notice Google changes the URL's to the galleries from time to time to keep them "unlisted," but that also means that I'll have to be on the game about when I get people the url's.

In contrast to other experiences I've had uploading to sites, it was a positive breeze. In Picasa I simply picked a folder, opened that folder, and highlighted all the pictures I wanted. I then clicked upload, and the upload manager showed me my progress....I uploaded something like 140 high rez pic's with basically 10 seconds of work, and maybe 10 minutes of upload time. Not too shabby.
