Love the colors from my M9 but might be leaving it behind on an upcoming hiking trip to Machu Picchu and was wondering if there are any CCD based compacts that would produce similar colors. I just really like the image quality and attribute at least some of it to the CCD sensor.
Know almost everyone has moved to CMOS but if there was something recent-ish that I could pick up possibly used that would make a good travel camera.

Seems they aren't using CCD sensors widely during recent years. I cherish IstD as CCD camera.
btw Foveon is technically CCD with layered design or it stands on its own?

While not CCD, I found the X1 to be a good match for the M8 in the color and rendering department. Images from both match well side-by-side.
Lens matters to, and the Elmarit is a gem.

If you're after M9 colours, the Ricoh GR does surprisingly well, depending on the processing you use. My M9 processing tends to be very vivid, and I can match the GR to it surprisingly well. The GR has better recoverable highlight detail than the M9, as well, although its shadow recovery is not quite as good, I think.
The closest I have seen to the M9 is actually the Ricoh GXR M-mount module. Having bought loads of cameras and played with many more, the M-mount module of the GXR has a look that is somewhere between the M9 and film. I shot someone's wedding with the M9 and GXR, and it was difficult to tell the difference between the cameras, particularly since they used the same lenses.

So is the Sigma DP2s the most recent CCD compact? I'm actually looking for something similar...I had considered the GR series, but I'd prefer a normal lens.
edit: it appears that the DP2s has a CMOS after all...did the Foveon cameras ever utilize a CCD?
