In this particular case it's for an M9 but I'm sure it would work on just about any Leica, or for that matter any 35mm RF. I robbed a Fuji grip for an X-E series that I got from an RFF member for $40 and used good ol' 3M outdoor double sided foam tape to secure it. I have the Leica grip but never liked it, I find this one more comfortable and less intrusive.

Poor beautiful Leica now has a wart! 😉

John,

All my Leicas have warts. That is why you call them "Monsters." LOL.

I love TA Rapidgrips and TA Rapidwinders. I wish Tom would make a Rapidgrip for digital Leicas so I could buy one.

On my Monochrom I use a aftermarket grip that Pop Flash use to sell that looks similar in shape to the O.P's shots. My worries is that double sided foam is not secure enough.

You know I have a grip fetish. Also I like doing things that annoy people. LOL.

Cameras that I own that have addition of grips: Pentax 67II; Leica MD2; Leica M6; Leica MP; Nikon F3 HP; and Nikon F3P (via MD-4 motordrive).

Calzone, the grip has been on there for well over 6 months, it gets shoved in a back pack for storage and has yet to come undone. I mentioned the outdoor variant of the 3M tape as it's the only one that will hold on to things. I've made grips from all sorts of little rubber things, pads for a television mount, fuel line, stiff rubber foam and the tape held them all.

Warts!! It's beautiful. Kinda like a tasteful breast enhancement.

I've been doing something similar for several years now using Flipbac stick-on grips. For the front of my Leica, I use the Flipbac G4 and for the back I use one half of a Flipbac G3. Much cheaper and less bulky and cumbersome than a Leica grip or any of those Thumbs Up thingies, plus my hotshoe is usable.

Couple of things to keep in mind--I use 3M double sided camera tape (the stuff used to affix rubber panels to camera bodies and sourced on the 'Bay) to attach the grip. Make sure to clean the area really well with rubbing alcohol before affixing the grip/tape.

The G4 has a small void on the back that may cause the grip to slip and move. To reduce/eliminate this, I filled the void with a small rolled up wad of double sided tape. When you cut the G3 grip, you are left with both a curved sided and straight sided thumb rest thingie. Pick one or try both to see which one fits your thumb better. 3M tape should not damage your camera's finish.

I've done this on a couple of M8's, an M9 and a couple of M 240's. No need to add the rear bump on the 240 as it already has one. Grip gives me just enough leverage and fill under my hand without adding bulk. If it moves or slips, just peel off, clean area with alcohol, and reapply new tape. In a couple of years of use, I've lost just one rear rubber grip, but the other one has stayed pat.

Rather than a thumbs up, which worries me that it might damage the hot shoe, I've used a small cork stick on foot where my thumb hits the camera back. All of the above methods are "non destructive as they can be peeled off and cleaned with a little alcohol. A plus if you tend to sell your gear.
