I want to warn all members that about 6 months ago I purchased a fuji B690 from Wouter van Oosterhout from Brazil on the RFF classifieds. When I received the camera it was not as described and in much worse condition. I have attempted to contact him without a response and eventually he closed his email with RFF. I have attempted to track him down without success. Another member emailed me as he was suspicious of him (concerning another camera he was selling ) at the time of our transaction but it was too late for I had already sent the money. Anyway, I would not deal with him and from now on I will not do anymore overseas transactions.

If you PM or email me some info I'll try to locate him.
One point: photo equipment, both new and used, is much more expensive here in Brazil than in the USA, because of import duties. Therefore it would be very unusual for stuff located here to be sold to the USA.

Sorry for your trouble; I hope you catch him. Btw, what country do you live in? I would love to do all my transactions somewhere where everybody is honest...😉

According to a newspaper article I found in Google he is an expat working in foreign aid in Rio de Janeiro for the last ten years. He works for the Palmares Foundation and Terre de Hommes, not at all the kind of person one would associate with this kind of thing. Maybe it is all a misunderstanding or somebody hijacked his name.

sorry to hear of your troubles ... these sorts of experiences tend to shake your faith in people unfortunately

but there are still plenty of great people I've dealt with on RFF

good luck, and thanks for letting the community know

Well, I have sent him another email but expect nothing. I was not completely ripped off in that the camera was sent but oversold. He was supposed to send a repair manual which is what I kept writing him about but as time passed I realized the camera was in poor condition. He is an anthropologist in Brazil and I am an anthropologist in the US and seemed like a decent guy. I think he buys stuff in Brazil and resells it for a profit. Unfortunately the problems with this camera required shooting a few rolls of film to fully detect. I wish he had simply stated he had not used the camera and that its condition was unknown. Thanks for the replies and I plan on sending it to Frank Marshman for repair. Ironically I have bought several cameras on Ebay and never had a problem.
