out of sheer curiosity I was wondering if anyone rides and what they ride gear wise. I've got a track bike (Bianchi Pista) but I changed it from fixed gear to single speed.

I would say "wimp" but I've never got on with fixies either. Here's my Surly tourer, the only vehicle I own at present. 8 speed, friction shifters ('cos the indexing wore out). It's had new wheels and a change of bar wrap since this photo.

Markinlondon...Love the Brooks saddle! Had one on a bike that got stolen 25 years ago. I don't miss the bike, but do miss the saddle. I've got a bike that started life as a Cannondale Hybrid (H-500). It then slowly evolved into a drop-bar light tourer or could be used for cyclocross. My most recent addition was a carbonfiber fork. The road shock that 'dales are famous for got to be too much on my elbows, so after several years of looking, I found a cf fork with a 1" steering tube. I'm back to loving it again. At 10 years old, i'm hoping to get another 10 out of it...

A 7-yr old hardtail Giant Rincon. Tough as nail, been thrown off it more times than I care to count.

I have 8 bikes - 5 road, 1 mountain, 1 fixed, and 1 SS. My oldest is 1979 Pogliaghi track and my newest is a Cervelo R3. Nothing but Campy for the road. Next to photography and my family, it's a really big passion.

excellent - Mark I did ride it fixed for about an hour LOL but it really did kill my knees when braking, I've got a flip flop hub on it so if I ever fancy changing back it's just a case of reversing the wheel. That's a sweet surly you got there. Got my eye on a nice sprung Brooks saddle at the moment.

Some of my riding buddies have equal if not more! I could take some photos within the next couple of days. She is a beauty. I haven't riden it in two years. I was hit by a motor vehicle that ran a red light, 2 years ago this July 2. I had suffered a concussion, broken leg, and knee surgery. Fixed is still a bit too much on the knee. I put in around 145+ miles a week.

all i gots is a beach cruiser...with a bell that says i love my bike....

though i would like a bike for daily commutes...

any sugesstions?

I've got a '77 Trek 330 that I picked up from one of my dad's work buddies a few weeks ago. Nice condition, and it didn't cost much more than a song. 🙂

I feel really good about myself these days, cause I'm down to only four bikes. I used to race (road- Cat 3) and still ride almost everyday. I echo Keith's sentiments about cycling being a big passion, next to photography and my family. My bikes are of several styles these days, but all have skinny slick tires. (If I'm going off road, I prefer to walk or hike, or ride a horse.) I have an old Cannondale road bike, a custom built steel frame road machine, and 1970 Colnago, all with Campy drivetrains of various vintages. These days, I'm also putting a lot of miles on a 1988 Paletti converted to single speed, with a fixed/freewheel flip flop rear hub.

I found that there's definately lots of overlap between users of old mechanical manual cameras and people who ride bikes. More, I think the same part of me that is attracted to the simplicity and the precision of a good camera is the same part that is really in love with the single speed bike, if not even the fixed gear. Then again, I would never give up my geared bikes, either.

One more thought- I'm trying to convince my girlfriend that we need to get a tandem bike. Anyone here ride one of those? How about recumbents? Surely there are a few serious weirdos among us...

Ellsworth Truth, mountain. Ibis Spanky, road, built up for long rides. No fixed gears or single speeds. In fact, lately I've been spending the most time on a TGB 49cc scooter (bought used) - it turns out you can just twist the grip to go up a hill! But I need to get back on the bike; if I lose 10 lbs I'm allowed to buy the CV 35/1.2 (bet with wife).

James, not sure but I this site www.fixedgeargallery.com is always worth a look/drool. Depends on what you are looking for, personally I went for single speed for more of a workout

While we're on favourite bicycle sites, here's mine. Serious two-wheeled p0rn including lots of fixies and "Phwoar, just look at the lugs on that" 😀
