This is one benefit of digital technology, instant feature addition!

Today Olympus made available the latest firmware update for their IS-capable bodies that added the feature where users can dial in the focal length of the lens (non 4/3rd obviously, a.k.a excellent manual focus glasses) on the body to take advantage of the stabilization.

The tests from real users who had already downloaded the firmware showed incredible improvement (go to Fourthirdphoto Forum if you want to read more, a guy handheld a 400mm lens at 1/50 with good results).

I know that you K10D boys and girls already have this, but this showed to me that Olympus is actually doing something that I think will pay off in the long run. The 4/3rd system is already one of the most "adapter"-friendly systems out there.

Good for them!

😀

Have been happy with my E300 Evolt and very close to buying the E510 at the moment. Wish I could justify an E3 after seeing the output of the E1 over some time. Olympus does things right.... as they have proven for many years.

Now if only they could build decent viewfinders that don't give the impression of tunnel vision.

E3 supposed to have excellent VF by any standard (DSLR, not OM), now I am closer to pulling the trigger than ever... 😛

Amazing,

apparently the image stabilization in those cameras is achieved by moving the sensor in such a way as to counteract the motion of the camera....
