Bill Cunningham, RIP

A photographer's photographer. Absolutely passionate and engaged, right to the end. One could not help but admire him, even though, in my case, I have little to no interest in what drove him (clothes and style).

Wonderful character with a great eye and a kind and generous soul. He had a unique vision and backed it. The documentary on him was enthralling but it went one step too far which was a very sad moment.

I don't think it went too far, even though I felt it was uncomfortable territory. If it is the scene I think you are referring to, I hope it gives people some hint of the sort of pressures our society puts on people to conform to arbitrary standards that are presumed "normal". It's a reminder that even really great, strong personalities sometimes can't escape those pressures.

In any event, I'm not much of one for fashion, but Bill knew what he wanted to get pictures of and he went out and got it, and that is always admirable. The world needs more people like him.

Incredible talent and a great eye.

Watched a documentary a while back of him in New York. A great photographer, with such an attachment to his work. Saw the news of this just now :-(

A self-taught genius with an incredible backstory. And a great photographer. He deserved all his honours and acclaim with that humbleness of his.

I'm watching (and enjoying!) the documentary linked in #8 above. If you do the Amazon Prime thing, it's available there at better image quality. Fascinating stuff!

I've watched it a number of times, and I honestly don't know what you're referring to here?

Bill is a huge loss, a truly gentle soul, and so utterly committed to his craft and his vision.
