Hi,

I apologise for this off topic thread and if this post is inappropriate and against forum rules please moderator delete it.

I am looking for a new Contax T3 and was wondering if any forum members have seen anyone with New Old Stock (NOS) Contax T3s and perhaps if you could contact me off forum.

Many thanks.

You will pay dearly for a NOS T3 if you find one. Why not keep an eye on KEH.com - they pop up once in a while. Or give them a call and talk with them - you might be able to buy a mint example if one shows up even before they post it on their site.

Robert, thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye on KEH.

Francesco I will check out the used ones, I am a bit wary of used P/S cameras, as some can have a tough life. but I guess if the price is right.

Thanks

Many p&s cameras sit most of the year and are only used to capture birthday parties and vacations. What you really need to avoid is a camera that was heavily used by a pro. - not a likely problem with a T3.

Have you considered a used Contax G1 or G2? They are bigger and lack built-in flash, though. But they are excellent cameras and you then have interchangable lenses.

Good luck - I had thought of buying one myself before I was seduced by medium format. My carry-anywhere camera is now a Bronica RF645.

Well even if it had a rough life, a quality camera like the T3 should not have any problem, I dropped my Minolta TC-1 countless times, and it still goes on and on, no problem whatsoever.

Just an update on this,

I did find one that was a new demo unit. It had a few fingerprints on it but I was assured that it had not had a film through it.

I saw some T3s recently that were new demo and new old stock that appeared on that bay place, so some T3s may still be about if you hunt around. Sometimes a good tip from a fellow photog can help too.

Thanks all.

Tim

Can't speak about the T2, but the T3 has lag: perhaps ½ sec. Focus can be locked between exposures, but some lag is felt even then. Overall, the T3 is quite awesome, and my most-used camera. If zero lag is required, I pack the original T.

I just shot a roll of Provia 100 with my "new" T2. I'll have it developed this week. Nice camera, but there is some lag. But the zone manual focus should take care of that.

Yes, compared to the CM the T3 has considerable less lag. I always use the 'manual focus' setting on my T3. This helps to reduce the shutter lag. The lens moves into the focus position when the desired distance is selected. It stays there, unlike the CM, for an extended time (maybe 5min ?). If you don't take a shot in this time the lens moves back into a default standby position. Just tap the shutter button to get it to move back into the selected focusing distance, where it will remain for another 5 min. If you occasionally tap the shutter button, the lens will remain in the selected focusing position. (at the expense of the battery)

I've got a black one with case, filter, box and original paperwork that is in like new condition if interested. Works perfectly, exposure and focus are dead on accurate. I rarely use it but when I do, it's faultless. Send me a PM if interested.
