I've had this scanner for a couple of months, and everything has been scanning fine through Silverfast. Today, while scanning a newly developed roll, the scanner stopped scanning at about two thirds through a negative, made a grinding noise, and stopped.
Now, I can scan a negative, but the scanner makes the same noise and stops at the exact same point. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

Sounds like mechanical failure.

Well, in case anyone else comes across this thread and has this problem, I found the solution in the comments of the following video:

Let's call it a "manual adjustment".
The problem in the video is the exact one that I had.

Ive just had a plustek apart - arrived broken from transit, something heavy rattling around in there! Was easy to fix once it was apart.
The guts are pretty simple. Take the screw out the back, then peel back the side rubbers and undo all the screws there. The plastic shell lifts off. I would then, with the unit open, do a scan and see if anything is obviously untoward. Personally I would give it a nudge if it gets stuck to see if it clears, could be something causing the travel of the scan thingy to hang up.
But its up to you how involved you want to get. I dont know exactly what your issue is nor what the solution is, but this is what i would do; unless of course youre still in warranty?
