Bizzare light meter issue with the Mamiya 7

Hello,

I have a strange issue with my Mamiya 7 light meter. No matter what aperture I use and no matter where I point it the arrow on the right, indicating overexposure, is always blinking. Now it seems to be not that rare of a problem and people said that the contacts of the lens or body are at fault. But the weird thing is that this issue only appears when the focus of my lens is set under 3m. 3m and over the light meter works fine. Does anybody have an idea what's going on?

I would guess it´s the flex cable going from the bayonet contacts to shutter/aperture assy failing (it´s the more "stretched" the closer you focus). Luckily, the shutter assy is not so expensive to replace. Tura Scandinavia (Sweden) replaced one on my 80mm for about 200€.

I called the Mamiya service and the technician suspected the same.

He said it would take 600€ to replace. With that price I am better off shooting with a light meter or simply buy the lens again.

I use a 7ii and always use an external meter. While the internal meter is very good it does not equal the capability of an external meter. I just started using a Sekonic L-758DR and it is a great meter. It is a one degree spot meter, an incident meter and a flash meter all in one.

In any case I think you have a great system and an external meter will only enhance it.
