Black 35 SP in auction site

Have you asked the seller if he'll ship outside the US? He may, provided you have a good history eBay with good feedback. Many US eBay sellers are missing out on a lot of money by selling only within the US. With the dollar as low as it is, foreign buyers can afford to pay a lot more for their items.

If this camera were to sell for $200, to me that would be only 16000 yen. Just 3 years ago a $200 item would cost me 24800 yen. I love the deals I can get on American items now, I can pay 15% more than an American buyer would and still save money.

Have seen them reach $500.....

Final sales price: $305.21

Wow. I knew these were in demand among collectors but I didn't expect it to get that high.

Most of the very nice black models I have seen on eBay in the past have considerably exceeded $300.

I consider the BIN camera currently on eBay to be VERY well priced at $299, plus the international shipping under $25.... good deal.

I've followed these cameras for a decade on eBay, and the black Canon QL17 GIII and Olympus 35SP models have always done well.

It's just been in the last year that prices on these two black models have dropped.... I suspect due to the economy, the film aspect and other reasons.

I've had a number of both models in chrome and black. I cannot honestly recall another fixed lens rangefinder of the era that offers more feature rich function, image quality, reliability, and full manual over-ride in the absence of battery power than these two cameras.... the Canon GIII and the Olympus 35SP.

If I weren't currently dealing on a local used Canon 5D digital body, I'd be very tempted on the BIN camera at $299. I see an opportunity there for a superb shooter, and some profit on resale in the future.

Fair enough. This is the first time I'd actually seen a black 35SP for sale so I had no idea what to expect.

I've only seen a black Canonet 17 GIII in person once. A friend's uncle found out he was into photography and gave him one in perfect condition. Said friend told me he'd prefer a more traditional looking silver GIII but wasn't up for a trade, family connections to his and all.

It was a beautiful little camera - I understand why people are drawn to them.

The truly unique model of the Oly 35SP or SPn>>>>

There is a model of the Oly 35SP branded as a 35UC. VERY hard to find. It's really a trim modification, and has no other features or functions over the 35SP and 35SPn.

The only distinction is that it only came as a chrome and black covering model, but has more black plastic facia on the front of the silver top and the name 35UC.

I tracked one to South America a few years ago but lost track of it before I could buy it. Since then, I think I have seen two, possibly three, on eBay, but had lost interest. One sold 2 or 3 months ago.

Interestingly enough, I am the seller of the black SP on eBay, and someone just bought it... I also sell one or two black QL17 cameras each month. I find some interesting things here in Japan, I add a few new cameras to my eBay store each week.

I have an Olympus UC around here somewhere, maybe even 2 of them...

Edit: congrats Pixelatedscraps, I hope you enjoy your new SP

I couldn't help myself: it was just sitting there. Unbought 😛

Found a Black one in vintage classic camera site in English Pound 395, too expensive ! Please anyone have a black one or mint chrome with original cap, leather case, original filter (any?), let me know as I 'm very interested.

I am looking for a nice black 35 SP if anyone is wanting to sell, please PM me!

Also interested in a chrome 35 SP or RD if no black's are offered. Also please PM me!

cheers

I know where there's a really nice chrome Olympus 35 SP...the lens looks clean (UV Filter on it) the shutter sounds good, body & paint in pretty good condition and it has the complete case...now, they also have an Olympus Pen F with the 38mm 1.8 lens but it would need a complete CLA (body & lens)...Overall the Pen is in decent shape cosmetically but it doesn't fire, the mirror is stuck, film won't advance, the lens aperture works in a very slow motion and there's a piece of dirt/dust in the lens...
They have a few other rangefinders that I should look at a bit closer but the Pen and SP have really caught my eye...I think the best price for the SP would be about $80 and the Pen for $120...I really want the Pen but the SP might be the better deal...
I might make a decision by the end of this week...

I got lucky and found two more black Olympus SP cameras... I also found a black RC. The seller says it's original, though I doubt that's possible. Still, it looks very nice...
