Black 50mm f1.2

With the hood, nonetheless. I've noticed it more than once when browsing his listings. He's got a couple of items I keep pondering getting the money together for rather than play ebay roulette... 😉

Edit: Thirteen, I think he was refering to the black paint as that's not typical of the 50/1.2

Looks like the only difference with the "normal" one is the aperture ring is black rather than chrome, everything else looks the same (I have the 50 f/1.2 LTM)

True, it does have the hood and original cap. Rare, it is.

No, I was not questioning the the provenance of the lens-I trust Kevin's gear totally.
I had just never see or heard of a lens like this.
However, since I posted this thread I have recieved an email reply from Peter Kitchingman stating that he has a black 50mm f1.2 as well as black version of the 50mm f1.8 apparently they were made especially for the black bodies.
You learn something new everyday...

Nice-lookin' lens... although blackening only those two items (aperture ring and infinity lock) to make the lens a better match to a black body just shows how detail-obsessive Canon was back in those days!

Speaking of unusual Canon finishes, I'd like to revive a question I've trolled through here before without success. At one time I had a 50/1.2 lens hood that was done in a dark-bronze finish rather than black. It was nice-looking, but at the time I thought it might just be a black hood that had discolored in some way.

Years later, though, looking through the collection case in a camera store, I saw a Canon V-T body and a 50/1.2 lens that both had the same finish! The camera had conventional chrome top and bottom plates and controls, but the leatherette had been done in this dark-bronze color; the lens had the dark bronze applied to the focusing ring. In other words, all the parts that were normally black were finished in this color.

I've seen pictures of several other 50/1.2 hoods in this finish, but never any other camera bodies or lenses. I've always wondered if it was a limited-edition combination, or a trial run, or what.

Anyone else ever seen one of these?

Go for it if you have the DEEP pockets!

Amen on the Kevin/ evibay comparison--me to 100%. Kevin is high, but truly honest and you get what you pay for w/ him

I too have had good experienced buying a few choice items from Kevin... He has good stuff and it's clearly and honestly described. It's possible to luck onto a good used item on eBay (new items easier) but going with Kevin or KEH takes out most of the uncertainty factor.

I agree with Doug.

KEH is safe because they take returns w/o question. Although you don't have the benefit of truly great descriptions.

Kevin, on the other hand, goes to great lengths to describe the smallest faults. Sometimes the faults are so small I actually can't find them when I receive the items. That is the mark of a great dealer.

True, Tom... I've had something like that happen with KEH too... When I got my Contax G1 from them, my main goal was that 21mm Biogon-G. I chose a "Bargain" grade lens and upon receipt it looked box-new; I could find no fault. My local camera repair guy gave it a close examination, and under magnification he found a tiny scratch on the edge of the rear element. KEH must have spotted it too, and that bumped the lens to "Bargain". Ok by me!
