Black 7

Hey everybody, I was checking out some swag on ebay and found this. Is a black 7 really so rare? I've been scoping out the market as I'm intending to sell my regular old chrome 7.

The one from that auction looks pretty beat up for a thousand dollar camera!

Chrome wears much better. My $70 7 beater looks much nicer than that!

I agree, Lance. Looks a real beater. When they start looking that bad I'd rather have a Leica.

Although, of all my Pentax Spotmatic bodies, I reach for the beat-up black one every time. The rest, all chrome, look too pristine. My black body looks "broken in."

However, no way I'd pay that kind of money.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. Its nice to know what's rare and whats not as many adds advertise "rare" cameras that aren't really that hard to find. I have a chrome 7 that I'm about to put up for sale and just trying to figure out what its worth. Thanks,,,,,,,,

Ah. As a price point my bargain grade (ie a user but perfect mechanically) came from KEH for $190. Good meter, speeds on, etc. but some scuffing and a tiny bit of brassing on the wind lever.

The plain 7 is the most comon with 137,000 made, then the 7s & 7sZ with ~20,000 between them and only a handful of factory black ones.

I prefer my plain chrome one, thank you very much 😀
