Is the black faceplate on the Black and Nickel f2.8 Tessar for Contax easily replacable? Seems like it would be an easy swap with just the two screws holding it in. Just wanted to know if there would be any snags before I spend money on a parts lens. My original faceplate is very dull and difficult to read.

Thanks for any words of wisdom.

Some time ago I wanted to lift the nickel plate on my Tessar 2.8. The screws refused to rotate so I think that some rust developed inside the threads preventing any movement. The screws seem to be steel made and the lens body is brass. Thought also that some very very very tiny drop of very light oil (and some time) would help, but I´m still in doubt. As I didn´t need to do any job on the lens, I happily quitted of my efforts to take the plate out, but there is no other clue about how the plate is affixed to the lens barrel.
Hope this be of some help.
BTW, after reading another post, may I PM you?
Thanks in advance
Ernesto

Thanks for this information. I may not attempt the swap then. But it's good to know of any pitfalls.

You may PM me any time. No problem!

yes,the black plate is easily removed once you take out the screws. Trouble is finding a screwdriver with a blade thin enough to fit the head of the screw. Also, the screw heads mar easily if the threads are at all rusted or otherwise stuck.
