Black and white photography with the M8

These photos look like digital manipulations. That of course is the PP fault & not the camera's. Using a 35/3.5 Summaron on the M8, what frame lines does this bring up? Does it figure in the crop factor & bring up frame lines of 46.55mm or 35mm? Does he have to use a 50mm adapter to bring up frame lines for 50mm? IMO the R-D1 takes better b&w photos.

..Most people tend to think today that they need the latest Leica body and lenses, and that they will never be able to enjoy taking pictures (and I mean taking incredibly good pictures) with something like the M8 and a Leitz lens from the 50′s...

you say this about the m8 but discount your own intent when talking about the fujis...i don't need an m8 or any other leica to enjoy my b&w photography...the fujis do me just fine!

I just bought an M8 , it will be here on wed. I have always wanted on. It may not be the best choice right now for cameras. But I am looking forward to giving it a go.

Hmmm, he's probably using the full dynamic range control in Silver Efex a bit too much, I think. I get carried away with that too. He's young and like many others, he hasn't worked with too many film prints to get a handle on what black and white film actually looks like. I guess Silver Efex is the new black and white film.

No adapter needed. A 35mm lens on an M8 will bring up the 35mm framelines (and in the case of the M8 paired with 24mm framelines). The only difference being that the frame lines on the M8 will be a smaller crop compared to a full frame Leica to reflect the APS-H sensor size. In the same way the Epson R-D1 brings up 35mm framelines, but with a smaller crop to reflect the APS-C sensor size. Or an M9 will bring up 35mm framelines with a larger crop to reflect the full frame sensor.
