Well i'd like to see where this one goes, i just got one at the local auction site for 90$ after visiting the seller to see the cam (i was in the neighbourhood and he was at home).

Japanese and mint/as new condition.

So there is a Data Point for the QL17L being better than the GIII, does not matter where it was made.

Well since I haven't used a QL17L, I wouldn't be able to say. My views, on my limited use of the GIII, are pretty subjective, I know many people love them.

I've had three QL17L and over ten GIII's. The lenses on the GIII's varied in quality much more than the QL17L's. At least that was my experience.

A couple of weeks ago, I spotted a black GIII QL17 at the Sydney camera market for AU$275 or about US$217 on today's exchange. Very pricey I thought! So right now, I'm happy to hold to my chrome QL17 (plus a couple of other QLs that I use for parts and practicing dis/assembly).

And it's not only the Canons that are selling for "inflated" prices in the black colour. So, too, are Yashicas! I've seen Electro 35 GT's and GTN's going for over US$200.
