Black Canon P @ ePrey

Difficult to estimate from the photos, but this one could be a real one. Some details are hinting this to me. And black P's are not that rare. Two years ago, I have seen a non-faked black and strongly brassed P, freshly CLA'd and offered by a well reputed seller, that went for $2.5k.

Nobody reallly knows what Canon did back in 196x.

...and 195x. What is known is that Canon produced black versions of almost all RF models since the V and L series, on special demands from dealers and for professionals; but no one knows how much of each model. Considering their regular appearance at ebay, black P's seem to be less rare, compared to earlier models like the VI-L or L-1.

I agree with David, as long as one likes to pay a certain price, the price is justified. Personally I went the cheaper way, bought a chrome VT de Luxe, dechromed/denickeled and paint it black...

Has all the attributes of a genuine Black P even down to the parts that fakes usually fail to do. I have emailed the guy for the serial # of the body as it is hard to distinguish in his pic. If it falls within the numbers that I have recorded on my database then I would say it is genuine as Canon tended to make the Black models in batches. The only thing that concerns me id the black ASA dial as all I have recorded to date have coloured ASA dials but as uaual thta could change. This is the first I have seen come out of Korea. Model P black cameras seem to be more proliferant than the other black bodies, probably due to the fact that Canon promoted this model more than others throughout the world. The model 7 was the other common model. Peter

fake or not...it sure is pretty.

that it is! interesting, though, "excellent" vulcanite, yet it is separating on the front left side. It's kind of hard to know the wear pattern of the P's since most of us have them in chrome, but I find it peculiar that the lettering on the back side (especially) the word 'Company' isn't worn, since that spot would receive a lot of touching. still, gorgeous in black, as well as chrome.

Anyone followed what happened to the bidding? The camera now lists as ended with 1 US$. I'm sure there were bidders, the last time I looked it was up to $200-something. It's now relisted
Click the bid history link of the first auction. There were bidders, but the seller cancelled the auction and relisted the item, for unknown reasons. I hesitate to bid in such a situation. Good sellers would justify their step in the new listing.

I stuck with the relisting and won the camera for a suprisingly low (to me at least) $635.
The camera looked genuine to me, based on the wear on other black bodies I've seen and owned.
I paid with Paypal and the seller replied quickly with an EMS tracking number-the camera's coming from Korea.
According to the EMS tracking system the camera has left Souel and has been loaded in Inchon.
I'll post again when the camera (hopefully) arrives.

Nice! I was going to bid, then got busy - did get a response from the seller about the relist about it being due to Ebay deleting the photos from the first sale. *shrug*

Let us know how it works out. Meanwhile I'm looking into getting my P painted black.
