I bumped into this rare Black Canonet QL17 the late 60s model. I am looking for its current value. I checked ebay and I saw 3, two for more than 300 and one with lots of interest for about 125 so far. Does anyone know the average sale value? Thanks.
I am getting ready to sale it.

Some months ago i've sold a QL17 Glll, black, in quite good condition (but not mint).
I think i got 150-160$ for it.

That's a non-Glll one, so i don't think it would go over 125$ if its not really mint and all...

If it hasn't had a CLA and is an "user" one, it might get expensive for the buyer.

Have seen actual sales up to $600 for the GIII

Have seen actual sales up to $600 for the GIII

There is a GIII for sale on eBay for $499 by the user fotofila. He's had it up a couple of times now at that price. He'll get it eventually. He's in no hurry... never is.

I sold one with fungus in the lens, but otherwise working well with good seals for over $200 (black)

Have seen other nice GIII blacks sell for $400 to $500, one for $600 about six months ago. This is all eBay activity.

Your QL17 is essentially the same camera as the GIII. I can't recall exactly what was added with the GIII, but rather modest upgrade from what you have.

What do you think it's worth.. What do you have to have to be able to sleep good on the night of the day you sell it. ie no "whimpering".

Thank you both for your input. I am selling it on ebay for $200, or taking best offer. If anyone is interested please go check it out. I have more photos posted in there.

The Non-GIII version is made in Japan and had better quality control. I've had three of them, the lenses were all good. I went through 10 GIII's to get one with a lens that good.

Just most people do not know this...

My scratched and beaten Black Canonet Ql17L (like this one) went for over $200. Helped pay for my first Nikon SP.

I have the black GIII version and it is indeed made in Japan.

Fortunately, I paid well under $200. :)

OBTW, "rare" is misspelled above, it's supposed to be "R@re". :) :)

The Early GIII's were made in Japan. Later, moved to Taiwan. Someday I'll come across a made in Japan GIII and pop the top. Will be interesting to see the differences in construction. Little things- like a metal plate over the viewfinder on the QL17l was replaced by plastic on the GIII. A few other places where plastic was substituted for metal. Probably done gradually as time went on.

Reposted on Ebay

I have reposted the camera on ebay, same price and still taking offers. I received several offers but I forgot to accept them before they expired. That won't happen this time

Are you kidding? These cameras are all over the place here in Japan, I was looking for a black Canonet today and found half a dozen. The cheapest was an old user which was priced at 3100 yen ($30), the most expensive one was 10500 yen ($100). I should start buying these things up myself and putting them on Ebay.
