Well-known
The seller said that a previous owner had left a roll of film in the camera for a long time and the film left some black deposits on the film rails.
What would be a safe solvent to use to remove these deposits given the delicate nature of the Leica shutter?
Thanks.

Probably. Apply some cleaner to a rag and be careful not to touch the shutter curtains. Leave the camera back open for awhile so as to air-out the camera. That should do it.

Use your fingernail first and then try some rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip. Blot off any excess on the Q-tip and wipe the rails clean. Rubbing alcohol will air dry pretty quickly.
