bob: don't mind the haters.. some people are just real jealous.

And a "nanny-nanny-poopsy" to you, too!

Bob could have come here and shown off his new camera kit without mentioning what he paid for it and we all could have admired it for what it is. But no. This was about the DEAL more than it was the CAMERA, right. What a great deal Bob got, and what a lucky guy he is, so the deal is fair game, n'est-ce pas? I would not feel comfortable taking this camera from a private seller for a fraction of what it's worth, and a few others evidently feel the same way. You might try to make a counter argument rather than just shouting us down with name-calling.

I'll repeat my question: Suppose he made the same deal from someone here on the board. Would we all be gloating and whooping over this if he had made the same deal with someone we know here?

That's a scenario that wouldn't have happened. Everyone here knows the relative value.

And if through some odd situation a seller DID post it for sale here for $2k, there would be a hundred posters that would point it out to the seller before any transaction could occur.

Conversely, if someone here had tried to hawk it for $15k on the classifieds, there would be people bitching that the owner was trying to gouge.

There is no appeasing everyone.

A deal is a deal. If you had the chance to buy a Toyota for $2k below market, would you tell the seller that he's selling it too cheap, or would you just buy it?

This holier than thou crap gets old...

I'm saying jealous of the deal.

That's exactly my point. RFF is a community of sorts. People look out for each other to a degree, which is what makes the classifieds here such a pleasure. No one buys from a price gouger, and, as you said, many would jump in to warn a seller before he sold a truly collectible kit for a fraction of its market value.

What makes this deal is acceptable is because it happened to a stranger, then, right?

This holier than thou crap gets old...

So if someone posts something that doesn't meet the consensus opinion it just gets shouted down?

i have to agree that this is getting old. i posted the camera on here because of the excitement i knew everyone would get from seeing it. the fact that it was bought for such a low price is secondary to the camera. it's a very nice addition, but secondary. and again, $2100 is not a small amount of money on any economic level.

would the guy that bought the recent example on ebay for all that money have gotten this many well and not-so-well wishers if he were a forum member? probably not, but we'd have all been just as envious and excited for him. how many of us have ever even seen one of these things in person? not many.

as i said before, i plan to keep it and shoot with it. it seems to work well and the glass is all clear and obviously capable of nice images. i have it loaded and sitting less than 5 feet away from me right now. on my walk to work this morning, i took half a dozen pictures of the bay and san francisco. it has made me want to take pictures again after a three or four week break from regular shooting.

I still say that perhaps this was his way of passing on good karma. He gave a great value to someone else to help them out. We are assuming that he did not know the value, could we not equally assume he did? Perhaps he is a Microsoft Millionare and wants to share his good fortune? I see stuff like this a lot around where I live, people have more money than brains some times.

when i left his house he DID say to me that he knew i was getting a good deal on this camera and he hopes that i actually use it. i'm keeping up my end of the bargain and using it...

Bob,

You could really do the RFF community a favor here and just close the thread at this point. I'm thrilled for and your find and whatever you choose to do with it. But enough already..... this way we don't have to worry about whose been offended or calling anybody names or any of the other various and sundry opinions that have been bantered about in your thread.

Before anyone gets too excited, this is only my suggestion not a demand and it is in no way an attempt at censorship, just a way to move on before this gets any more blown out of proportion.

Once again, my congrats to you and your new toy.....................

Bingo. He priced it to use, not to shrink-wrap it and stuff it in a safe. End of story.

I know you'll use it with gusto. :)

i haven't done much posting on any forums, so i do not know how to close this thread. if someone wants to tell me how to do it, or if one of the moderators wants to close it, it's fine with me.

thanks for all of the well wishes and even the nay sayers. at least we all got to consider what we'd do if faced with the same situation...

THREAD CLOSED!!

You bought it for $2,100. Therefore, the camera and lenses are worth exactly $2,100. Use them like they are worth what you paid for them, and no more.

People should get over themselves.
If I saw a black M3 with lenses for 2 grand I would of driven 100 miles per hour to get it first. And been ecstatic about it and really feel no guilt what so ever.

If it would make you feel better, you could sell me your M2 for $300.*

*sarcasm alert for the sensitive

Selling it for a DSLR!? He deserves everything he (doesn't) get!

Nice find! Best shot in the dead of night wearing ninja get-up and shoe polish...

...the fact that it was bought for such a low price is secondary to the camera.

Then why was it the first thing you mentioned? ;)

Nice to see all the anti-demcratic comments in this thread, btw. Anyone who disagrees with the group consensus is evidently a hater who should shut up, already. And barring that, let's just lock the thread.

It's a public forum, people. If you're that scared of opinions that differ from your own, then form an exclusive club and ban smart-asses like me. :D

Mazel tov with your new toy, Bob.

Absolutely! I can't understand what all the self righteous fuss has been about in this thread.

I bought a black paint M4 for $1200 from a dealer and the price should have been at least $5000, given it's condition. What am I supposed to do? Go back and offer him more money?

Regards
Ernst

Of course!

There is nothing to feel guilt over.

This liberal culture of having to second guess every decision so as not to be 'unfair' or being politically correct so as not to 'offend' is for the birds.

Enjoy the camera! I'm very happy for your find. :) Now put some emulsion through that baby.
