When I wanted silver, I got black. When I wanted black, I got silver.

In the end, they're all good. The problem is getting them.

Hey, Brian! Stop introducing facts into a perfectly good argument!

(Especially when you beat me to it by a week).

Cheers,

R.

I agree and I bought my M6 when I bought it 2nd hand and although I prefered a black body and hand no other choice. So I bought silver body. And then when I bought my M8 I already found out there was a risk of Black paint ware out on every Black m8 so I choose Silver body. Now I love the silver as a black lens gose well with Silver body.

silver on silver.

I like both, I have 5 M cameras, a black paint M4 and a silver M4, a black paint M3 and a silver M3, and a black M6.

I do prefer the look of black cameras, so I have been collecting them. So far I have the following cameras in black,

Canonet QL17
Olympus SP
Olympus Pen S
Nikon F w/eye-level finder, FE, FM, FM2, FM3A
Pentax S2, S3, SV, and SP
Mamiya 1000 DTL
Minolta SRT 101, SRT Super, and SR3
Yashica Professional,
Mamiya Universal Press, etc

I just need a black M2 and a silver M2...

Sorry for OT, but probably people here know this: Is digital Leica silver bodies (M8, M9P, X2) chromed or anodized?

I ended up with a black M and silver Summicron collapsible, but the color scheme was mostly by chance, because I wasn't sure which 50mm lens I'd end up liking most when I bought the black camera, and the collapsible was the only silver 50 I tried (I sold the black Summicron in my avatar.) I think it looks pretty cool. I guess I could paint the front half of it black to complete the HCB look.

Given a choice, I would pick black - but the overall condition of the camera is far more important than the color. I would not turn away a mint condition silver M6 in favor of a run down black M6, for example (historic M cameras aside).

The same principle applies to lenses.

My M3 and M9 are silver while my M6 and M8 and the Standard are black. Both types are beautiful.

Black because I know there's black tape, but I'm wanting to know if anyone's gotten a hold of silver tape to cover the labels on their silver Leica...

I'm so old I remember when well known New York street photogs thought they would be less noticed if they had a black Leica. Of course it only took a few months for everybody to figure out that if you had a black Leica you presumed yourself to be a hot pro street photog. So the black on the Leica had the opposite effect they were trying for. Of course now you can buy black plastic Minoltas (not that Minoltas are bad, I have quite a few and some are very nice). So you have to decide -- is the black "cool" or pretentious?

I'm at a point where given a choice I'll always take chrome. The new Nokton 50 is on my short list but a chrome 50 Summilux is where the heart's real longing lies. But I'm happy to put anything on my new M-E bought a week ago. Rather content either way at the moment.
