I used to say black only, but now I own a silver M2 and I say that it makes zero difference.

Silver reflects the bad photons and lets only the good photons in.
Black doesn't reflect the bad photons therefore pictures taken with black cameras are not nearly as good as pictures taken with silver cameras.

I like the silver one. It looks good whatever you put a black lens or a chrome lens.

If you are after how a camera looks silver/chrome is more practical than black, because both black and silver lenses look good. On a black camera silver lens looks wierd.

I am in the midst of editing 27 rolls of Neopan 400 from a trip. Half were shot in a black ZI, half in a silver ZI. Lenses were swapped around.
Anybody want to speculate how much difference I can tell between the film shot in the black body and the film shot in the silver body?
OK... Well.....
Umm... I think..... Well....

I have a black m6 and a silver m8. I do notice that people react to me differently because of the silver, it is more visible, so taking a cameo shot is slightly harder. I also prefer the looks of a black m8, so I might trade in my silver m8. Anyone interested?

I've tried Solvol Autosol (Chrome Polish) before on a small part of the base plate as an experiment. Made not a jot of difference.

I personally like the black finish. However, I wouldn't let the color of the camera be the deciding factor especially if a good deal is to be had.

During a normal day out shooting, its both. Black M6 for one combo, M3 for the 50. Everyone has their input and reasons, to me the M3's VF for the 50 makes it hard to shoot my 50 on my M6's again, so they usually are wearing a 35. Plus, at night, or in rough situations etc., like shooting severe weather, I've found it nice to have 2 bodies, and know the combo for each, so I can grab one or the other for a certain shot I want to make.
That said, for a digital M, I'd go black, and not go back

I think a classic camera in silver looks really good these days.

There is only one problem with black. I want to recover my M8 because the original covering looks cheesy and has poor texture. Cameraleather has a nice selection, but only black looks good with black and I really don't care about stealth. All of the classic street shooters got along perfectly well with chrome Leicas because in their day, that it what was available.
If any black M's have been recovered in any other colors that look good, I be glad to hear about it.

I admit a nicely brassed/worn black M has a unique look, I still prefer chrome. When I bought my M9, the gray was not out yet and I was not thrilled with gray paint so I bought black. I had a choice when I bought my M6 TTL and I chose chrome. I am also liking the chrome lens on the black body and will probably get my next lens in chrome.

Silver for the old cameras and black for the newer ones. That's how I like it
