Hi,

I am looking at acquiring a very good condition black paint M4, from 1970. The serial number checks out as the last camera in a black paint batch from 69-70, according to the Leica pocket guide.

It is very clean, with minor brassing and one tiny ding in the top plate. It has been CLA'd recently and the finder is clear and the whole camera feels very smooth.

What is the typical market price for an M4 like this? I have seen much worse examples advertised for very high prices.

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

Regards
Ernst

wow ernst, a camera like that can be between 2500US or more; it comes down to condition. in this case, how serious is that ding? has it affected any mechanics or optics, etc? there's one listed at popflash in great condition for 5500US; there is a nice black chrome m4 there for 2200US, too.

The ding is tiny. It's barely disturbed the surface. the CLA was done after it, so everything should be fine. The price is extremely low and I wanted to get a feel for what these cameras were making in the market at the moment, as it seems too good to be true.

Erik,

The serial number (1 248 100) checks out as the last BP M4 made in a batch of 1900. It seems genuine but as I say, on the other hand it just seems to good to be true.

I bought a Black Chrome(I thought all black were BP, but learned about Black chrome then) M4 with 50Lux for 850$ a month ago. Sold the Lux for 750$ and the Black chrome cost me 100$. Good deals still happen.
Hey stop boasting
