Now dont laugh, but I have been told my skin has pretty acidic oils (no this is not an 80's B-movie about leftover nuclear barrels LOL)
So I noticed increased wear within two years of use (more so than any other black painted camera I have used before.
does anyone else agree to this? is there someone to send it for painting?

Sounds like my experience.

The paint [edit: I have an original R-D1, not R-D1s] started to wear & the rubber covering started to come off after about 9 months of regular use. The glue holding the right rubber panel eventually gave way completely & I've been using double-sided tape to hold it on (attempts @ using various glues from the hardware store all failed). I haven't bothered to do anything w/about the paint as camera cosmetics aren't that big a deal for me (especially for a workhorse digital body).

well, I wondered seeing others' peerfectly kept RD1s whether I was roughing it, but dont think so.
I also fell in love with a blue bessa I saw someone selling, so I thought if I can have it repainted I will go probably for a german aircraft grey or something.
Does anyone know who can paint this body with perfect results?

I had an early RD-1 from Robert White, which
worked fantastically well, but the paint flaked off
quite alarmingly after about 4 months ! in 3 separate
places.
After a lot of horrible phone calls with Epson and
some stress with Robert White, they agreed to repair
it.
But they just did a "hot shoe swap" with another body
which unfortunately had a badly aligned sensor, so
all the pictures where soft on one side.
[R.W. said this is fine just soot everything at F16 !!!]

I eventually got my money back and bought a new RD-1S
in Japan.

The paint on the RD-1s is much better and hasn't flaked
off yet . . .

What happened to you is precisely the reason that I didn't simply return my R-D1. I could more easily live w/cosmetic problems than the hassle of a misaligned RF, etc.

I love my RD1 and dread the day it passes away🙁
Seeing as I will never buy another rol of film again (snide remarks not required here from the filmphiles, thank you😛) my next step weems to be the M8. So given I will no resell the camera, I will apply a new leather finish and paint to it because...I can design it better than EPSON for my tastes ( I am not being smug about the design, its what I do for a living)..so I will experiment.
Thanks TC for the paint link. I can airbrush it on one day, in a different colour just because!

I noticed much more color wear on the R-D1 I had first, which, within a month or two, looked like an old cam after several years of heavy professional usage. The second, a R-D1s, was much tougher and even after 1 year and a half the paint loss is rather decent. On-off switch, some exposed edges, thats it. I'm not shure if this can be generalized for R-D1 and R-D1s or if this is just a random effect.

But I must admit there's nothing I do care less about it than this. Disaligned rangefinders and jammed shutter give me much more troubles 🙄

I know, it doesnt really bother me per se, but I thought it would be a good excuse to have it painted a different colour he he
Having said that, I intent to use this camera until the end, not re-sell it. If I was to re-sell, I would be upset about the early wear, as it would drop the value a bit.
Mine, btw, is an RD1, not an "s"...hmmmm
 
The paint on mine isn't coming off at all. And I bought it in May 2005. It only shows some "brassing" on the edges.
 
I have my R-D1s for a year now, shot approximately 6000 exposures and no sign of wear whatsoever. I do, however, clean the black metal parts of the body with WD-40 and then polish it off with soft cloth. I do this once in a couple of months. I learned that, when I tried to clean all those dirty and sticky lenses I bought from Ukraine on fleeBay. It seems that the WD-40 not only cleans the dirt, but also leaves thin film on the painted metal surfaces and provides thus some protection. It has to be done very carefully though, because getting the mineral oil on a glass surface would be, I guess, disastrous.
