Black VTD to B or not to B

Just posted a query to the guy selling the black VTD and be interested if I get an answer.

HI, Do you have documentation that it was CANON Inc that did the repaint also if it is the original box then it will have on it that this is a black body VTD with serial # of the camera. Not sure if the self timer lever is black and if so is there a white indicator dot on the top part of the lever. looking forward to your answer as it will indicate wether I bid or not. Cheers Peter

I'll be interested to see what sort of circumlocution you get (if you get an answer at all.)

I think we've seen that camera before. The color scheme seems plausible but the paint looks a bit "blobby" to me (especially on the self-timer lever pivot.)

Besides, do we know that Canon ever did camera repaints?

Shelton must have brought over some goodies from his trip to Japan.

the rewind shaft ends on top is not black, the fast shutter speed dial axis was always left chrome with a black speed indicator line, even on the factory black paint issues.

Received a reply and it wasn't added to the auction.

I have no paper of the repair but the camera is from Japan and it is where I puchase it from at the Tokyo camera fair, the selftimer lever it is back on a black camera, I have many of this before, also the box did not say black at all, cheers.

There is a guy in Japan repainting many cameras and not just Canon, Saw his site couple of years ago but he does do a good job but they are not repaints of original black cameras I would say.

Nice informative answer. I think most of us will accept that the camera came from Japan.... If it is the original box (should have SN on it, AFAIK), and it doesn't specify a black camera body, I'd say it is a repaint, period.

The seller is painting himself into a corner, not to make a bad pun. Personally, I can't afford a genuine black RF body, but I wouldn't buy this one, if I could. Will be interesting to see where the auction goes. Didn't someone say something about a high birth rate among "suckers"??

the unpainted original chrome camera can be found in very good condition for $350 - $500 in the US. add $400 for the value of the paint job, and i think that would be a reasonable price. it is not likely a factory paint job, so there is no added collectible value to the camera.

Problem is with these RE-PAINTED chrome/black Canon RF cameras, there is NO value to a DINKY DI Canon RF collector. I myself would not own one and neither would most other Canon RF collectors I am in contact with. So the market for them falls to the initiated collectors and hopefully the price increases within that market. Like owning a Russian Leica conversion to a Leica collector....just wouldn't be right...unless it is for curiosity sake.

To clarify "DINKY DI" in oz it means some one who is VERY genuine about something........😀 😀 😀

as los said, that camera is a lot of money for a non original painted VTD, no matter who painted it.
