Black Zeiss Ikon Eye Candy

Just back from the Rhino and a couple of pints of Tankhouse Ale and now this. If only I hadn't wasted so much money on beer the past 10 years...

What are the issues and pros and cons with this camera compared with a Leica, and what does the warrantee cover and by how long?

From the warranty:

During the period of warranty, defects will be removed free of charge either by repair or replacement at the discretion of Carl Zeiss AG. Claims under warranty shall not apply if the defect is attributable to improper treatment, including any interference with the product by unauthorized workshops or persons.

The standard warranty is from Carl Zeiss AG & is in effect for one year. The cameras sold by Cameraquest & Popflash, both advertised on this site, come with store warrantees. Please check these dealers or their websites for the length of their warrantees.

If you have specific questions questions about the "issues" you mention that are not answered in the links posted above, please post them & we'll be happy to attempt an answer, Monaho. :) In regard to comparison with a Leica, their are currently two Leica rangefinders on the market - the M7 & the MP, each with 3 different versions of viewfinder magnification. In addition, there are 9 different older Leica rangefinders available on the used market from the M3 to the M6 TTL. The M6 TTL may even still be available new somewhere. When you ask for a comparison with a "Leica," what do you have in mind?

The Ikon, especially in black paint is so easy on the eyes, it makes you wonder why the Voightlander R series are so, well, ugly.

The Ikon is sleek and the R's look like someone went, "Oh, crap! We forgot to put a rewind lever, let's just put it here."

I guess that's what you get for a grand more.

I have the ZI (chrome), and as a tool, it's fantastic. But I personally find it rather unattractive. And the black version, is, well.. u g l y. :p Maybe with use, I'll grow to like how it looks, just as I did with my canon 300d.

You know... sometimes I have to check what planet I'm on.

The ZI is ugly? Why I think it's one of the nicest pieces of ID for cameras I've seen in years.

A Bessa R2a Ugly? I think It's fine. Seems to take fine images in the right hands.

But then too, I think Boston Terriers are good looking dogs.

I'm not quite sure since I haven't thought about why until now... but possibly may have something to do with the way the grip-material stuff (leatherette?) just sorta goes square near the lens mount instead of flush to it. Even my ql17 gIII goes always there.

It's a design I'm not accustomed to, in time, it will grow on me :)

And obviously this didn't do anything to hinder my purchase of the camera back in November :p I'm not *that* shallow!

Is the IKON ugly? How do you know?

Whether or not its ugly is a subjective matter. Each person sees beauty differently. Plus, I think jano would know, as he owns one.

Who's jano and what makes you think he owns one? Did you see him with one? He could have rented it like a painted madam.

Who am I?
I am nought but a pigeon
standing
alone
with the sea behind me
and the wind in my face
were it not for the breadcrumbs
which the kind doctor provides
this land
this beach
this life
would be
desolate
