blatant scam

Spammed sounds better...no. I mean, original. It's different than "I once put chocolate all over..."

And yes, I agree with Rich. Although the auction sounds fishy, I also don't see how it is blatantly a scam. I'd just move on to the other ones.

Glad you guys didn't catch my mistake when I sold my Nikon on e-bay....I had about 4 people contact me...and nicely point out that I had indeed an F2 with D-11 photomic head and not an F2A. My ignorance. Bought it 20 yrs. ago and was always under the impression it was the F2A. They were very nice about it. I was embarassed. The camera and lens sold the first day.

e-b-a-y forensic ivestigators

I utterly amazed at the breadth of knowledge here. That RFF can count as its members this high a quality of forensic e-b-a-y investigators is a treasure and a resource (seriously!). It is both a blessing and an education. It reminds me of CSI or the courtroom scene in 'My Cousin Vinny' (with the tire skid marks). Don't stop breaking down these auctions, and letting us know about it!

> F2 with D-11 photomic head and not an F2A

Any F2 with a DP-11 head is an F2a. It may not have been sold that way originally, but was "upgraded later". Still an F2a.

I notified Ebay last week about a scam, posted it here as well. The auction appeared to have embedded html that redirected you to another site. I suspected a password sniffer. The response that I got back from Ebay was great. "We cannot disclose to you what action that we took against the Ebay seller, but can tell you that they are no longer a registered member".

lesson from above example is that you can't be an ignorant e-bayer and simply go by whether the auction seems to be legit, or whethe the seller "looks" to be legit, as some are unfortunately doing on this forum. It is always better to play it conservatively, that way, it'll only be the seller's ass that is on the line, not your's.

I could care less whether that French guy has a good sale on his M6, I'm just glad that hopefully some ppl would not be fooled into thinking he's selling something that it's not. As of this morning, the auction is still saying the false information.

And I re-assert that "scam alert" is completely justifiable in doing the job of getting
everyone's attention. I support the measures "ywenz" took right down the line.
Good job--thank you.

Got news.

The seller replied to my ebay message. He described the camera as a TTL meaning it has TTL metering (which it has, right?).

Check THE AUCTION now. He changed the information accordingly.

So, after all, it wasn't a scam, but thanks to Fred's alert, the guy will probably have a better chance to sell the camera.

That's my good deed of the day! 🙂
