ok, i'm the first to admit that i'm basically an old fart and that i entered the age of electronics & computers & software kinda late.
but i like it and want to keep trying new stuff.
i have read about and looked at blogs lately. (that's web logs, for the truly uninitiated) and thought that i would like to give it a try.
late last night i discovered some free software from google that would let me do just that.
so i set up a blog and called it back alley sessions.
i've only made 2 entries so far but it's kinda cool (for an old fart) and i'm hoping to get it growing a bit.
it's also very frustrating cause i really don't have a clue as what i'm doing or how any of it really works.
i have been attempting to figure out how to post pics on it.
very frustrating!!
so, anyone here have have a blog or experience with blogs in general?
i'm curious to hear your comments.

Aha, so the signature link was for that eh old wolf ?
Btw just a tip, if you keep the 'target=_blank' section on the link body, the blog will open in a new window.
After following a friend's blog for a while I decided to start my own. Unfortunately after 5 or 6 posts I faced the sad reality that I had nothing to say
Mine was done with diaryland.com, and to insert pics you had to either upgrade (and pay) for server space or link them from an external site with html code...
So far I like a lot the simple, elegant (and black!) looks on yours, just that when I saw your 'backalley sessions' signature the image of you as a Techno-House DJ at a Disco in Ibiza crossed my mind during 2 or 3 seconds

I have a couple "photoblogs", they are designed for photographers (that's us). The one I use the most cost's me a couple bucks a month and here is the link to thier homepage:http://my-expressions.com/, it has some cool templates and options. Check out one of mine here: http://apeture.my-expressions.com/

I have a blog. Not really for photography , but often I post pictures and tell a story of a just purchased camera.
A blog is fun if you have enough spectators and people who are willing to place a comment.
Sometimes it can be quite rough, if hooligans invade your blog. I experienced that a few months ago, and it took me 3 weeks to clear them out.
My blog is in dutch, so most will not understand it : http://akhnaton.punt.nl

Joe, you like to write as well as take photos so I think a blog is a natural for you. Congratulations on trying one out!
I had a blog site for about a year and enjoyed it -- called it Musings on Photography. It was hosted on a friend's server and when he started winding his server down, I took the 49 entries and reposted them to my website:
http://www.northernjourney.com/photo/musings/
I've started a new blog on Blogger.com (Google) as well but I'm waiting until Jan 1 to post my first entry. Here's the link to the new blog which will start up in a couple of days:
http://northernjourney.blogspot.com/
Borghesia, I can't read Dutch but if I could I'd read your Blog!
Todd, I'll visit your blog asap.
BTW, Karen Nakamura just started a new blog:
http://www.photoethnography.com/blog/

Gene,
Great Blog, you are a talented writer. As you can see I post only images on my blog, I tend to ramble when I start writing and always end up off topic.

Thanks Todd. I do some occasional freelance writing and the Blog helps me keep some momentum on wordsmithing. You sure have some *excellent* photos in your blog!

thanks for the support guys.
oscar, i have a big mouth and endure enough daily depression that, while i may not have anyhing to say, i'm confident that i will find many words to say nothing in.
todd, i came across that site a while ago and, as usual, marveled at your work. you seem to have a crafted style, a casual approach but with enough edge, tension & intensity to make the images most interesting and leaving me wanting more.
gene, i do like to write and while i like any formal training or discipline for that matter, it leaves me feeling pretty good most of the time. i fancy myself the village story teller and just wish i could put in down on paper.
the blog will be mostly for some poetry though.
as for posting pics, google does not offer a hosting service but recommends 'hello' software for this purpose. i downloaded it but i can't figure it out.
and it's so simple too...
that's my next step, getting some shots on the blog.

Gene -- Thanks for the Karen Nakamura blog tip!
I've got a little blog that I've been doing for over four years. It's political and cultural in nature with photography links heavy in the cultural side. The political side is left leaning so if you think our current President is doing a good job or if you think we are doing fine in Iraq then you might want to avoid it. Lot's of good photography links, though.

I've visited and read only one blog, that of the moody young wife of a guy twice her age who was a major troublemaker on an online forum I was hosting. I also corresponded with his vengefully-jilted ex-ladyfriend. He lived in a very bad neighborhood, and unsurprisingly he caused trouble wherever he went! I read the blog in hopes of insight into his soap-opera life, that could help me keep him more-or-less in line on the forum. It was sort of like reading a private diary. I'm not particularly inclined to read anyone else's blog, or start one myself.

I have a photoblog, referenced in my signature line. I started out a couple years ago using the Fotolog.net site, but have since migrated to using Flickr to host my images & blogger.com to host the actual 'blog.
Joe, have you started adding photo's yet?
furcafe, very nice, that is very much my style if I were to blog.
Red, great photographs on your website.
