I want a photo blog.

I want it to be very plain looking (not much sidebar junque, no manditory color, no manditory decoration.... ideally grey or white or black...you know the drill...)

If you have a blog, please link to it here.

If you have suggestions/ideas about photo blog format or blog membership or whatever, please share.

How does a blog work, technically? Do I subscribe to something, how tricky is it to upload photos? Is it as easy as RFF?

Nice blog page. Are those two Patterson developing tanks large enough for your needs? I can't imagine lifting them do an inversion.

It's a public diary.

You ever keep a diary/journal as a kid? Many people have done so and still do, and this is simply an extension of that. I think part of it stems from a secret desire for someone to discover your diary, which had usually been under lock and key. 🙂

The idea is an easily updated, mainly undesigned, diary type of thing...with photos.

Joe says it's easy. I'll follow his link, above.

I think blogs work pretty well as limited-purpose galleries, but I don't think they allow enlargement of the images..just big thumbnails.. IS THAT CORRECT? SOMEBODY?

Is there a format or blog resource that DOES allow visitors to click on big thumbnails to get large images?

what exactly is the idea behind a blog? sorry for an ignorant question but i really don't understand.

I have mine for lots of reasons, but mostly because it nudges me into a kind of creative discipline...and continues to bring me into contact with a scala of wonderful like-minded people.

My own photoblog, which uses Moveable Type, could probably use a redesign, but it's comfy like a favourite pair of slippers, so I leave it be. If I were to decide on a new layout and application I think I'd be tempted by www.pixelpost.org, which has lovely clean templates, and is supposed to be easy to use....

rover's world is also a Gmail Blogger blog. There are a lot of templates and it is relatively easy to use.

It provides incentive to actually do something, since if you dont people will notice you havent updated it (assuming anyone reads it) and will realise whata lazy f*** you really are.

Thats why I havent got one 😀

Csab', for me it's a way to write down my thoughts and my experiences and post my own photos in a context that I want. On my blog I'm just muzing about the influences on my photography and try to give some useful information on topics that I care about.

Because I don't want to annoy people who are interested in photography with my thoughts and experiences in Mongolia, or my daily life, I have several blogs. Each caters for a different aspect of my life.

I find it easier to blog than to keep a diary or to keep (and not misplace) notes.

"Blog" is short for "web log," i.e., as mentioned, an online diary or journal. As a journal, it's a blank page that you can put anything on... you're the creator.

Yes, Blogger/Blogspot is tied to Google. I use Blogger.

Blogger is an easy registration and has some simple templates to choose from. Where you go from there is up to you.

I use Hello program to upload my images to my blog. It uploads larger pics than the Blogger post templates (up to 480 pixel thumbnails which, when clicked on, open to 800 pixels) and allows you to standardize picture size and border color, etc.

Check out the RFF thread mentioned above... good info there.

Good luck ~ have fun!

I use Pixelpost for my blog; the link's in the sig. It's made for photoblogging, so it doesn't require as much modification as Movable Type or WordPress would need just to have a photo-a-day type blog. It doesn't do trackbacks or XML-RPC; the good news is that if you don't know what those are yo'll surely never miss them 🙂

Pixelpost is easier to set up than WordPress, which is easier than Movable Type, but they all require a bit of server knowledge and confidence to get up and running. Once it's done it's done though.

A lot of folks use myexpressions.com for their photoblogs.

Gene, I like your blog and its link to Pbase. I'm personally more inclined to confessionals and ranting than "musing," but I suspect the medium can serve both approaches.

I guess I'll have to stop worrying about Google's CIA role and simply yeild to the dark side.
