Hi,
My blue fed 2d arrived today in perfect condition. It has all the origional passports and the instructions in Russian, the brown leather carry case which is in excellent condition and of course the origional green cardboard box. Made in 1958 Serial # 492052.
First impressions and keep in mind i had never seen a Fed in real life until i saw this one :)
Fits into the hand very nicely
Viewfinder is a little small but ok in good light
Weight is just about perfect
Should have got one years ago
Anyone got any good second lens recommendations? Any size just give my your biased opinions.
Will try it out this weekend

If you have a 35mm lens, you can get an FSU 35mm viewfinder for the shoe. I use a J-8 on mine a lot, it's 50mm. Actually there is a selection of FSU 50mm lenses. The Industar 61 L/D is my on again/off again favorite. The Industar 26M is compact. A lot of people seem to like the Elmar or its FSU twin on a Fed.

I have the Industar 26 on it now and i'll just be happy with that for the moment but if I see something nice ..... thanks for your advice

bgb.... if you get bored with it let me know... ;-(

What film are you gonna shoot..... mind those
exposures..... ;-)

Love is never boring ... i'm learning all her little tricks and so far have figured how to load and unload the film, set the shutter speed after winding on of course ... the f/ thingy looks easy too. I can focus ok i think. I really like it and it might be the only camera i use for quite a while.
I have about 8 rolls of Kodak B&W 400, C41 process and the lady in the lab has promised to be very careful when it's processed. I have a Weston Master 2 and a Weston Master 4 which i think are ok. If it all goes well i want to move to slide film, maybe Velvia .... just maybe

ps Is that xa an easy repair Kapa?

There's two types of people in this world:

Those who have a Blue Fed 2 ...

AND THOSE WHO DON'T! :D :D :D

Welcome to a very exclusive club .... M8's are so old hat!

Hi,sounds like a poll is needed.Who has a blue Fed 2.I do,Fed 2c.Off the bay,was going to be a parts camera,but too nice.Love'm.........Robin

I look at your signature Keith, and then I re-read that you're bragging about a Fed... HMMMMMM :D

It's more than HMMMMMM ... it's bizarre! How a $40.00 russian rangefinder can capture my attention while the rest of my stable sits there (staring at me in disbelief) unused, defies logic! I put a roll of film in the M7 yesterday .... took about ten shots .... put it back on the shelf and went looking for the Fed.

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH! :bang:

Just slummin'.
Likes the looks of those girls from the wrong side of the track as well, no doubt.
I'd like to do a little social climbing myself. "Brother, can you spare a M?"

First time out, she treated me badly ... the shutter dial came loose and half of the frames were underexposed. I managed to leave the lens cap on for four shots. Did I feel rejected, used, taken advantage of ... no way!

Who knows what she'll do to me next time we go out! :D

.... so Keith, tell all....... you've gotta cabinet full of Leica's.....
... so whats so attractive about Ms Blue Fed 2....? ;-)

In fact..... while your at it..... could you lay down your "pros"
of FSU Leica's.... versus the real deal.... as some of us (well myself)
will proberbly never have the op to actually own one ;-(

Should be.... purchased it from a reputable seller....

The real reason for the sale is I snatched a 'Buy-now'
"XA" last sunday........for a mere 30 NZD..... ;-)

Ahhhhhhhhhh..... that feels better....... ;-))

Kapa,

I have another post that reveals all and explains/excuses my insanity.

 :D

So you got the XA Kapa and i got the Blue Fed2 seems to be a fair deal. If i can find a good repair shop i just might go for it.
I would also like a comparison between the fed and a Leica ... not that i would change sides at all.
My experiences with my fed are a little like Keiths ... and i can't figure how such a low tech camera could bring such happiness in a world of high tech wonder cameras.

While I do not have a Fed or FSU camera, I do have a beat up and 111a. I was unloved when I got it, and did not work on slow speeds, and was bought for parts, until in a fit of boredom, I repaired it although it still has a huge ding in the top plate. I have and M3, MP and a III in good condition, some how the beat up iiia ends up in my pocket. When I use it I do not have a concern, and hence I use it regularly. why? cause it doesn't matter, the big ding in the top plate, and the optically clean but cosmetically untidy elmar, 90 and 50 take good pictures and were cheap so I dont have to worry about them, I relax and so take better pictures and enjoy the moment. I suspect this is the effect keith is experienceing, with his blue Fed 2 .
