Nikon sells a soft release for the FM to FM3A. It uses the standard male tapered screw thread. The cap is black plastic with Nikon printed on it...easily removed rubbing gently with green scotch-brite pads then re-finish with some mineral oil. You can still buy this soft release new or used, and on eBay occasionally.
