Just got my new body from Epson - the old one, serial no. 18xx, had an iffy shutter mechanism. The new one has serial number 44xx - so we are getting near the middle of the production run. New body is fine so far.

What's the highest body number so far out there?

Also, one more photo from the CV 40 1.4 SC - definitely a b/w lens. The colours come out a bit garish, a bit off, but the b/w image is almost 3-dimensional.

Cheers,
Kirk

Kirk,

An interesting post for me. I hadn't realized that so many R-D1's were already out there. This has to be good for all of us.

Your comments about the 40/1.4 SC and the sort of images it produces bring to mind my observations about my Nikkor 28/3.5 in LSM. I absolutely love this lens in B&W (and the tonality looks similar to your nice image), but in color the images look like old (1950's) National Geographic photos -- garish colors which are a bit off. The single coating may explain why, rather than anything intrinsic to to lens formula, etc.

My 4th replacement body is 45xx. I am not sure whether they are skipping numbers or not though. In anycase, 4500s in 7 months is relatively low. I wonder what Epson's projection was. Besides, I personally am responsible for 4 of the serial #s :)
