Browsing for film, as one is wont to do... I came across this nugget:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-x-KODAK-BW400CN-35MM-B-W-FILMS-BW400-400-/140582425132?hash=item20bb5d922c

The seller is selling 3 rolls of expired Kodak BW400CN for $60. Or, $20 a roll for this expired film. Everywhere else on ebay it runs at about $3 a roll for a 'decent' price.
Anyone can ask what they want for what they are selling, but the interesting thing is the seller claims to have so far sold 37 of this three pack offer, with only 6 remaining.
Right...

So how do they fake this sales claim? Are there really 37 people out there who would ignore all the much much much cheaper offers and pay $20 per roll?

Hi,

It happened with APS when they (Fuji) stopped making it. The last lot doubled in price from the same seller who had hundreds to sell. Took him/her a week or two to realise.

Regards, David

Man is selling a rooster.
- How much, buyer asks.
- Grand, seller replies.
- Why so expensive?
- Need money.

I just recently "found" five rolls of BW400CN that are dated 05/2012 stuffed into a bag in the basement, any opinions whether they would be any good or not?

That's almost fresh film! Basement usually isn't hot so it should be as good as it can get. I'd overexpose a stop for safety and run around shooting.

How do you know he doesn't live on top of a volcano?

Seriously, you must be right. Even the +1 stop may not be necessary but it will do very little harm (finer grain, lower sharpness).

Cheers,

R.

I usually buy consumer color negatives on eBay, expired and non-expired, because the prices from most Swedish photo stores are way too expensive.

I've never run an expired film selling business but I assume for non-ultra-rare expired films, the earlier you sell them the better. So I always ask for discount even if there's no "best offer" button. It works sometimes, especially when the sellers want the films sold.

There are another kind of sellers, who would tag the listing with "LOMO" or "experiment", together with a higher price. I would never buy from them. I mean, if I was rich why wouldn't I just buy fresh Ektar and Portra?
