On the Zuikos keep in mind that the Olympus 50/1.4 has changed several times over the years. I have used one of the black-front pre-MC versions (serial in the 600,000 range) and one of the last versions (serial over 1,100,000). The earlier ones had much harsher Bokeh than the last version. I just got the newest one a few months ago and I was blown away by the nice bokeh and very high sharpness, even wide open. The best 50 I have ever used.

I like the bokeh on minthya, and nightstop best. But I could be responding to lighting and composition choices also.
The barber photo has nice bokeh, and nice shallow DOF. I find the bokeh of sam the lens tester a little hard-edged, a little distracting.

thx for looking guys. I will say tomorrow which lens was used on each shot. Only one lens produces what I consider to be harsh bokeh and I really don't like the look it gives although it is a very sharp lens! All the others I think give a very similar look.

I really like that last photo of the woman where her hand is out of focus in the background. I have no idea what lens you used...though I hope the SMC Takumar because it's cheap.

I like the out-of-focus rendition of the first image. I'll be interested to see if it was the Takumar. I'm not sure if the yellow-cast is the Tungsten lighting or the Thorium glass.

I also liked the first one. It can't be the Summilux or the Planar. Both are too sharp.

The Planar is a very sharp lens but the shapes and distortion in the oof really do put me off. The Zuiko is probably marginally smoother than the Takumar but the Tak to my eyes does give a more vintage look. The LUX is overall consistently smoother than all the others but at 10x the price of the tak or zuiko.

This comparison would work better if each lens were used to shoot the same scene. Some background elements are more prone to uglyness in bokeh than others. The distance to the subject and the background can also make a huge difference. The Planar shots are focused much closer, throwing the background more out of focus.

The Zuiko looks a lot smoother than the Takumar to me, but the Barber image was an easier one to render than the pic of sam. Sam's background was very complex, would stress the Bokeh of any lens.
I think the Leicas were the best, followed by the Olympus, then the Pentax then the Zeiss.

I have one of those, and I think it would have rendered the barber a little better than what you got, but would have been much smoother then the Pentax and Zeiss lenses on their subjects.

Forgot to say in my last post, these comparisons are hard to judge when you dont shoot the same subject under the same lighting with each lens under test.
