It's time to get the third book club up and running. All are welcome to join. The book that we have decided to discuss is The Genius of Photography by Gerry Badger (this is the book that accompanies the recent BBC series).

HERE are some links where the book is available for sale.

This is a reasonably long book. So let's give ourselves at least a month to acquire and read it. We'll schedule the start of the discussion for May 1. Of course, if people need more time to read the book, we can always push the start date back by a week or two.

Ok, who's in? Let's put together a list of participants in this thread in order to facilitate communication amongst ourselves.

Again, everyone is welcome to join. We have run two book club discussions so far. The threads are archived in the Photo Books/Mags/Articles forum.

I'm not sure if I can/will participate but thanks for the book suggestion. It's 40 euro here in Holland. A bit steep. It'll gobble up my allowance. :)

Yes, this book is a bit pricey. I paid the equivalent of $40 CDN for my copy through Amazon.co.UK. That works out to about 25 Euros which, though still expensive, is not as bad as 40 Euros.

I have only leafed through this book somewhat haphazardly thus far. But it certainly looks very interesting. For what it's worth, not that I am a huge fan of his, Martin Parr recommended this book as the best photo book of 2007.

I'll see if I can get it cheaper somehow. It does sound like an interesting book. I wish I could follow the series. Maybe the BBC will release it on dvd some day.

I'm in - just ordered mine! Great idea this "Book Club" discussions. I'm glad I have catch this thread...

Regards,
Joao

Just received the book today... It'll take a while for me to read as I am spending a lot of time at the University... Book looks excellent and I am excited to read it. It has some outstanding photography in it as well.

Great! How are others doing at getting their hands on this book?

Not good. Other issues have come up in the past weeks and I doubt I'll be able to read the book any time soon. But I will keep an eye on this thread and see what others think of the book.

Hi,

I received mine a few days ago! (...)
It is a great book, with pleasant text! I'm loving it.

Regards,
Joao

oh cool! I'll be sure to make an order!

For those who watched the series, in the first episode there was a short segment on crime scene photos of dead bodies. I thought those photos looked amazing, despite the morbid subject. Is there a book of those photos available?

How's the reading going? Do those who are interested in participating think they will be ready to start the discussion on May 1?

I won't be read by May 1st as my reading is going VERY slowly. May 1st signifies the end of my semester at the University, but more importantly it signifies finals (jaws music playing eerily in the background )!!!! Mid May would be fine for me.
