Hi I am looking for inspirational photobooks having immediate family and home life as primary subjects. I mostly take pictures of family members. I have heard of Larry Sultan's "Pictures from Home", but can't afford the current used prices.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can think of Sally's Mann's Immediate Family. A truly great book. Although I don't consider it inspirational, exactly, when it comes to family snaps. It's on another level entirely. (Speaking only of my own pictures here.)

How about Lee Friedlander's Family? (Out of print, I believe, but I'm sure a library has it.)

Finally, and this is like recommending the movie The Ice Storm to someone looking for a movie about American families, but then I think The Ice Storm is a good movie -- how about Nan Goldin's The Ballad of Sexual Dependency? In the sense of friends-as-family. Obviously, it's not a book for a family audience. But again a fantastic book, IMHO.

P.S. -- I love your avatar.

Thanks for the replies and the leads.

I found a book in our public library entitled "So The Story Goes," which shows photographs of Tina Barney, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Nan Goldin, Sally Mann, and Larry Sultan. Excellent photo book on the subject.
