I am going to New York (Manhattan) and Washington D.C. this summer. Any suggestions for good used book stores? I am mainly looking for technique books from the 1930's through the 60's. Also used magazines from those years. No car, so it needs to be accessable by subway.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
One of my favorites is The Strand in NYC. Take the subway to Union Square and head south on Broadway - it's on your left. There's another location somewhere in the Village, but I'm not sure exactly where that one is.

In DC, you can try Second Story:

The Rockville, MD location is much larger, but is less Metro accessible.

There's one on 18th St between 5th & 6th Avenues, on the north side, with a lot of photo books. As a bonus, right across the street is Academy Records with a ton of secondhand cds, dvds & vinyl. And on the same block, stop at City Bakery for an iced TwoTone (coffee & chocolate) and a pretzel croissant.

Can't go wrong. Within walking distance of the Strand, too.

Thanks for this one. Will check it out when I take my daughter back to college in August. This is an irresistible temptation: photography books, music, coffee, and chocolate:eek:
