I've had a deposit on a R2A for awhile. I came back into town yesterday and stopped at Samys camera in Santa Barbara. My favorite salesman said "O wow, I'm glad you came in. I've been saving something for you." What a mean dirty thing to do! It seems Leica made a special edition Black MP for Brooks Institute of Photography (labeled and everything). The students got to use them for 6 months and then they went back to Leica for a refresh and then they're being sold with full warranty. So.....now I have a 0.58 MP but no money for a lens. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb......

Yep,
A Jupiter 8 is available for less than $30, with a free Zorki thrown in - LOL.

Get a Summarit 5cm F1.5, they go for under $150 and can be CLA'd for $90.

Or: read the "Cheap Leica Lens" thread. Maybe it needs a Bump.

Yeah, Steve, I bet you're really kicking yourself, regretting that move more and more each day! Kidding ;) I'd shop for a used Voigtlander lens, maybe on eBay, but a Jupiter-12 or -8 would be a good filler too while the budget recovers.

Canon 50/1.8

Canon 50/1.8

I went down to Santa Barbara today to empty my piggy bank and pick up the MP. They had a Canon 50/1.8 LTM(not Serenar) with oil on the apeture blades, they were asking $195 but would let it go for $150. I'm still thinking, it's a little steep, I still would need LTM to bayo adapter.

So I've got a pretty MP to look at.

Steve, your story about looking at a lovely new camera without a lens reminds me of my buying experience of my Canon VI-L. It came with a lens but the lens was incomplete, lacking a rear element group. All I could do was look at the body and dry-fire the shutter. Money was tight after the purchase and Joe came through for me by sending me (free!) a Russian 50mm lens. Then came another Russian lens "on loan" (but now bought) from Kin another RFF member, and finally I bought a mint Canon f1.8 50mm lens ($150) from Brian. (I am currently waiting for a 1954 collapsible 50mm Summicron stuck in the mail. ) I've also bought a collapsible FED lens from Ole in Norway, which will soon be in the mail. I'm going to have quite a 50mm lens comparo test coming up soon.

Well, I bought the Hexacon 50f2 from Merciful(Andrew). So now I sit with the MP in my lap and wait the blessed arrival.
