Brainstorming on some 35 GS problems...

My 35 GS has been reliant for 11 out of the past 12 months.

About a month ago, I started getting underexposures in situations where I needed a wide open aperture in low light... about 1-2 stops.

Today, the over/under lights were not working, and the camera seemed to fire only at the manual speed. Bulb did not work, nor did the shutter sound slow when I covered the meter with my finger in auto mode. I do get a good battery light when pressing the battery check button, and the over/under lights/shutter on my other Yashica work when I use the same battery in it.

So, I am just looking to see if anyone has ideas on what might be happening.

Bad meter? - Does shutter revert to M w/out meter?
Bad connection at over/under?
Bad board?

Thanks for any help.

Two questions arise:

- what battery you use (vintage mercury 5.6V, or any modern replacements) and how old/when replaced/used battery is?

- Do you know if POD has been replaced in reasonable past before you got camera or have you replaced it yourself? Are you confident there's solid pad, not gooey mess ?

Basically, I more believe in simple causes, leaving shot electronics as last chance.

So I'd check times with current and new fresh batteries in same dim light conditions. If both underexpose, I'd remove top cover to see POD (well, islands sink and rocks crack - maybe POD I've replaced has unglued. When you see you know).

I am using a A544/Px28 modern replacement battery with the Yashica-Guy's adapter. I bought a new one to test after posting, but when I got home the new battery was DOA. I will return it today.

I am not sure on POD, will check it today, but would that cause the over/under lights not to work at all?

The POD looks good, it has been replaced (not by me), and it is a solid piece of rubber washer.

I didn't see any bad connections that were readily apparent.

Looking through the repair manual it looks like it might be a problem with either the wiper contacts on the shutter release rod, or with the meter itself.
