I'm very familiar with the Braun Paxette series but recently came across this boxy shaped one which takes the screw lenses also. My question is, though - is it a rangefinder? I know there's a version like this with less windows and scale focusing marks on the lens but this looks like a RF right?

Indeed, if that faint diamond shaped hole is clear, that maybe an indication of a short-base rangefinder.

Thanks - I found the manual for the non RF version. I think I'll buy it and see. It'll be fun to look at anyway. I'll let you know how I get on...

Look at the top, and see if it says "Automatic" possibly followed by an 'I', or 'Super III'. From the photo it looks like it has the Color Ultralit 2.8/50. Can't read the shutter type though. Is it a Prontor-SLK?
