This must be like the seventh thread here about these two pictures.

this one is first of those for me, so comment here :)

X1 seems re-branded Panasonic micro-4/3 camera, or am I lost ?

picture of M9 looks, like M9 should look :p

Not only that, but a new Leica u4/3 lens is being shown on Panasonic's website; here' s the screen shot of the relevant info. The lens markings on the mockup photo you posted are nothing like the description of the Leica u4/3 lens on Panasonic's website.

All LUMIX G lenses comply with the Micro Four Thirds System standard for digital interchangeable lens system cameras. Even with their extremely small size, these high-performance lenses reflect Panasonic's advanced optical technologies, such as the MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) system and a design that minimizes wide-angle distortion to further improve optical performance. The LEICA DG MACRO-ELMARIT 45mm / F2.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S., which complies with the Micro Four Thirds System standard, has also been newly developed. Characterized by their compact size and light weight, these lenses bring out the full capabilities of the 4/3 image sensor, and support the Contrast AF function of the DMC-GF1.
* MEGA O.I.S. is not available on the LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 ASPH. and the LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm / F4.0 ASPH.

Okay, so we know it's coming, the images are here, info has been leaked. It's clearly not an m8.3, so what about the sensor size?

I agree that the M9 in this picture does not look right. As someone
mentioned earlier, the edge under the viewfinder on the left front
where it meet the new recessed portion is at an odd angle. Has anyone else
noted that the preview lever seems to have been replaced by a button?

I don't think that's a button. It looks like the tip of the preview lever to me.
About the original poster, the name is familiar. I think he sells Leica stuff on ElBay and might be an authorized dealer. Or was anyway. ;)

Look on the back of the sensor....

Look on the back of the sensor....

I can't find the Canon logo.
alberti

Reach through the hole in front with a needle nose pliers and grab and jerk the APS-C sensor out the front. Look for Canon on the back.

What frakking M9 folks???

I also noticed the red dot is back and so is the silver chrome flash shoe. These are from the original M8. The M8.2 has a black dot (on black paint bodies) and a flat black flash shoe.
So...either this mock up is based on an original M8, or Leica plans to return to those schemes.

I was excited about the X1 at first, and was tossing up which to get - bigger sensor or more lens possibilities? - and working out how that would fit in with my film RF or Ricoh GRD options at the moment.

But the X1 looks fake. Very obviously a cut-down Leica M, but with a second dial in the way of the shutter release, and a lens barrel so lacking in tactility that makes my Holga lens look touch-sensitive. Also, it still has that funny black dot that the M8 has - isn't on my M4, so have no idea what it could be... :)
