I have several Maxwell screens in my Rolleiflex TLR. They are the BRIGHTNESS, BUT ALSO THE SOFTEST. Scratches easily and very hard to obtain that "Snap Contrast". The higher end screen that Rick Olsen is selling are replacement screen from Bright Screen. I have several of them in my camera and all re brighter than OEM and has that SNAP TO CONTRAST that satisfy my needs. Look into it, as it is not overly expense as the Maxwell. ALSO IT DOES NOT SCRATCH AS EASY.

Talking about all this bright screen stuff, I decided to take matters in my own hands
and make a bright screen myself!. I took a old screen I had from a 6008 and old screen
(scratched) from a 3.5F, I dremeled the 3.5F screens outer frame (that was hard) so the
newer 6008 screen would fit in and glued it. So far the screen looks great and focuses
great at infinity, I'm going to take the 3.5F tomorrow to the New York Easter Parade
to take a few shots to see how it works out.

I've had a few different Bright screen options.
Most think only of focusing. IMO Bright screens aid mostly in composition although with the caveat that they may make focusing a bit less obvious than a ground glass.

I always used the magnifier to focus using the bright-screen.
The biggest advantage of the bright screen comes in composing as the original ground glass showed quite strong vignetting in lower light conditions.

I no longer own a Rollei. When I did I had a 2.8D with a Maxwell for lower light situations and a 3.5F and a T with the original screens for daytime use.
Admittedly this was an optimal situation having the ability to choose a camera.
If it was me I would do the Maxwell again.
It really seemed like the highest quality and most refined option.

I love this screen... I don't need a Maxwell nor desire to spend the money on one excuse the photo I have a house full for Easter so trying to quickly hand hold the digital camera at 1/8 th sec. It's 9pm hear in Florida. The room is poorly lit notice how bright the screen is. It is very easy to focus.

There are a number of screens on ebay. A lot of people lump these all into the $20 jinfinance screen which is truly terrible. I had one from rick oleson in the past that I did not think was very good.
My original rolleiflex setup was ground glass with the rolleiflex screen on top. The $100 screen that I purchased was quite an improvement over the original setup. I bought 2
Unfortunately it only comes in split rangefinder with micro prism.

Last I checked Maxwell screen was $265 still a big price difference. I would like to compare the screens.

Couldn't one swap out the original mirror for a new one? I have found that to be a culprit for dimness in the viewfinder.

The mirror in my Rolleiflex is in better shape than most of the ones around my house 😀

That looks real good.

I have a Rolleicord V now. Indeed the screen is slighty dim but really pops in focus and aalmost get it there even from waist level.

It's about sunset time and the street outside is at EV8-10, screen quite easy focus. May not be on thought, but in bright sunny days reflections can get around and difficult viewing a bit.

I'm not thinking about replacing it at all. A bright screen of the superior type costs almost as much as the camera. I'd liked to have tried the old $30 Oleson screen. The original GG is actually quite snappy and the grid is very useful.
Last week I googled about the Rolleigrid which basically was a drop-in fresnel. There was advice of using a generic fresnel to act as such. That is interesting.

I wear bifocals but its easy for me to focus. I'm catching actions shots I think the snap to focus is very good as well as the outside focus.
