Britain's treatment of photographers makes undemocratic Cuba look angelic

Well it's an even shorter trip for Brits to escape to the mainland. They should start using any means necessary like the Cubans.

Ha,ha, ha! But they do! The Brits cue up to get a glimps of the sun on Costa del sol, Spain, these days.

I still am trying to find someone he was popular with, and I live here. As you said, things are not always as they seem...

George W?

He must have been quite popular with the 50 million or so who voted for him. Up to that point, no US president had got that many votes. Ever. That's what I call a popular guy.

They could walk the railway tunnel and meet the illegal immigrants coming to GB halfway :D And then they should start thinking why so many others still want to enter the country. Can't be soooo bad.
My point exactly and if they don't like where their country is headed then organize and change it.

I voted for him twice. Didn't like him, but I felt he was better than the alternatives presented. Still do. Is that 'popular'?

Yes, that's what I would call it. We, over here in Europe, could just look on. In shock and horror.

While we, in the USA, did not and do not give two figs what you in Europe think of how we run our own country. Go figure.

While we, in Europe, cannot understand what the US thinks gives it the right to meddle in the affairs of other sovereign states.

Getting back a little on topic, might that camera not be a Moment ? Pretty much a copy/combination of Polaroid designs perhaps, but more likely to be used in the circumstances of a visit like that seen in the article. The Soviet version of the film was, reportedly, even less successful than the hardware though. Of course, it is perfectly possible(?) that Mr.Castro brought a Polaroid camera with him on the trip.

I think people in other countries believe that we all liked Bush because he was voted into office twice, but the choices were not so great.

It is not just true of other countries, it's true of people in general. If you're a Republican, you are this and that and thus, and you CANNOT be anything else. If you're a Democrat, you're those and these and whatnot and you CANNOT be anything else. If you claim to be independent, then everyone hates you - you must claim one side or the other, and if you state you're FOR X, then you MUST be for Y, because everyone knows that people who are FOR X are also FOR Y. It's the law.

For example, when I say I am unsure that global warming is anthropogenic, I get steamrollered by idiots who instantly began insisting that by denying global warming, I am no different (and just as evil) as holocaust deniers. When I say I do NOT deny global warming, I just am not sure it is anthropogenic, they reply OH NO, you MUST choose one side or the other, you CANNOT agree that global warming exists AND think that perhaps mankind didn't cause it. YOU FOOL YOU! How dare you think for yourself, how dare you not be a stereotype!

And so on...

So yes, if I voted for Bush, I must have loved him. And if one of his policies was a stinker, I was obviously for it. And if Clinton did something wrong, all his policies were evil. And if ...

Governments interfere in other countries whenever they think it is to their advantage. Always have, always will. It has nothing to do with rights.

I don't think so. I may be mistaken, but I see a rangefinder window as well as a viewfinder, and a flip-down metal lens cap that is classic Polaroid Pathfinder.

I wonder where Castro got the Polaroid? Perhaps from seizing all those companies that previously did business in Cuba.

Not any longer, it seems. I'd start learning Mandarin, if I were you, Bill.

Have been for the last year. Mae wenti, baby. Things change.

I'm also learning Esperanto. Ĉu vi parolas Esperanton? It has been 100 years (Dec 15) since Doctor Esperanto gave his gift to the world. Why Esperanto? The word itself means 'one who hopes'.

It does look different with something on top and something by the lens. An ironic Polaroid then.
