I'm sure the 20 million Russians executed in the progroms or sent to the gulags really loved Stalin. Anyone voicing disagreement was murdered. Jews barely escaped the country with their lives. Alexandr Solzhenitsyn just made it all up, right?

Out of 309 million American citizens I would guess that 200 million should be eligible to vote. Right? (Correct me if I am wrong) Out of that, less than half did vote. Participation was less than 50%, as far as I remember. (- Here in Europe it would be more like 70 - 75%). Out of that less than 50 million votes voted for George W. Which means he got less than 24% of the total potential vote volume. Which makes him as popular - relatively speaking, as our local brownshirts, over here. That's what it takes to vote a maniac into the White House.

You forget the election was stolen in Miami. The people wanted the other guy who received the most votes.

No. I am sure they did not. But the majority of the rest did, I am sure. Many of the victims of Stalin's terror are still living, by the millions. So are the perpetrators. And, far more typical than in, say, South America, victims and perpetrators are neighbours. Living in the same apartment blocks. Still, there is no mood in Russia for a legal process against the perpetrators.

The Russians, like the Americans, it seems to, like 'strong men' as leaders. That's the only explanation I can give you. What I have learned from many trips to Russia; don't talk bad about Stalin! Nikita Krutshchev had people put into mental hospital, for years. Not murdered by the millions.

The Russian Communist Party (a weird fascist movement, if you ask me) got 25% of the votes at the last parliament election. They were forbidden to participate in any of the TV debates. How many votes would Obama get if TV promotion was not available to him...?

Obama won by a historic landslide, with or without TV. His main strength and the source of his unprecedented amount of funds was the internet. He brought in more new voters than ever. McCain had no strategy except the cute chic.

The elections of 2000 and 2004 can be seen as reasonably accurate polls of all Americans, not just those who voted. The country was, and remains, deeply and almost evenly split along ideological lines.

I did not know that. I can find no reference to it. Do you have any links to sources? I could believe General Giap - perhaps - but Minh? I'm having a hard time with that.

I can find no reference to that either. Ho Chi Minh invoked the US Declaration of Independence when he announced Vietnam's independence, but he did not 'adopt' it, he just quoted the Preamble. And the Constitution of Vietnam is quite different than that of the USA. I wish I could find a 1946 version online, but the 1976 and the later Vietnamese constitution bear no resemblance to the US constitution. Any cites on that one?

This is the first I ever heard Gen. McArthur ever hooked up with Ho Chi Min, much less presented him with twin chrome Colts. What would the Supreme Commander have in common with the soon to be dictator?

In a way, the opinion was split four ways: Between those voting and those not voting ('the silent majority'). Then, out of those 100 million that did vote, - on all 4 -5 candidates, George W did get less than half the votes. That is max. 24% - possibly as low as 21 - 21% - Correct me if I am wrong.

I have found no references to MacArthur ever meeting Ho Chi Minh either, but it is known that the OSS supported Minh and Giap in setting up the Viet Minh, the forerunners to the Viet Cong. Until the US began to support France in their occupation of South Vietnam, North Vietnam liked the USA and we taught them military tactics and even asymmetrical warfare (which they used against us). The British assassinated (allegedly) one of our chief OSS team leaders in North Vietnam when it became clear we were coddling up to the North Vietnamese (again, this was long before the French left South Vietnam and we took over). Giap was known to be a supporter of the US, and Ho Chi Minh used to write letters to President Truman requesting money.

All of this was not that unusual; North Vietnam at the time was killing Japanese, and we liked that during WWII. Giap apparently had an autographed photo of Claire Chennault.

They would have a lot in common. Like a common enemy: The Japanese. Gen.McArthur, a very fine gentleman, would soon understand what a genious leader Ho Chi Min was. A strange coincidence: Where I spend my holidays, Tioman Island, Malaysia, they talk of these two guys, Gen McArthur and Ho Chi Min as the heroes of the WWII in that region.

The two shiny Colts would be all too rich for Ho Chi Min's blood, I am sure. He liked it simple. Like making his shoes, by himself, of weared out car tires...

Here how it happened: There is a young girl from the Nung ethnic group in Cao Bang, called Nong Thi Xuan She was brought in to "serve" Uncle Ho. She brought her younger sister Nong Thi Vang and a female cousin with her to Hanoi. Later she had a boy child with Uncle Ho. The boy was named Nguyen. Tat Trung. There was also a rumor that she had with him another girl child named Nguyen Thi Trinh. Then Mr. Tran Quoc Hoan raped her at the house in Hang Bong Nhuom, murdered her and covered the crime by fabricating an auto accident on Nhat Tan. After the older sister was killed, the younger sister ran back to Cao Bang and was also be murdered to get rid of the clues. Her cousin could not escape his bloody hands either. Vang's fiancé already wrote a letter to inform against the culprit.

After about one hour, a doctor came out, read a report that generally said: the corpse bore no wound, no sign of beating or cutting. Internal examination found no wound on the insides, no poison in the stomach, no sperm inside the uterus as a sign of rape. Only the top of her skull was cracked, a liquid oozed out. The doctor said the victim could have been enveloped in a blanket then hit by a hammer right on her crown. After that, Vang rushed home to tell Nguyet. Both were crying.
