Brits Ban Cameras on Planes

We can all thank Mr. Bush and "skull and bones" for our beautiful "new american century".

Maybe they should just ban all browned skinned people from planes, it would be so much easier on everybody.

Man, and he has the nerve to talk about islamic fascists.

We should all be able to vote for the next U.S government elections, after all, their decisions affect us all.

Please don't get me wrong, I love America and almost everything on it, but I can't believe what's happening.

And also, in no way am I leaning to the side of the "islamic fascists", it's just that this time around, Goliath is so much stronger.

I'd love to have a unicorn.

Good night everybody.

Khaled

Y que viva Mexico cabrones!!!😀 😀 😀

Ban this confiscate that. Bah!

I wonder how many plots have been foiled by such procedures. Or like the air raid drills in the US during WWII, is it simply a means to make everyone feel like they're involved in the great struggle.

Airport security didn't stop the 9/11 attacks and I don't believe it stopped these attackers either.

The passengers on Flight 93 did more to prevent catastrophy than the whole US Air Force let alone airport security. Passengers also stopped the shoe bomber and that was after 9/11.

I say go with proven methods. The rest is ineffective, public relations, B.S.

Roll back all measures to pre-9/11 levels and just tell the passengers themselves to beat the crap out of anyone behaving badly, taking anything that ain't a tampon into the bathroom, lighting matches near their feet, whatever. Pretty quick folks will know be cool and sit quiet.

Instead of funding nazi searches of me and my mother, Western governments should pour resources into on the ground intelligence and surveillance.

Congrats. Worst BS posted in this thread so far.

Quit complaining! We are at war. A world war III. Civilized people against Islamic terrorism (nobody has said they are Islamists have they? But is there any doubt?). They hate us, and envy us. So they'll bomb us into oblivion so that they can impose their interpretation of how things ought to be. Sound familiar to you over 60? I'm flying 3 times in next 6 weeks. I'll pack my gear in a Pelican case and buy film there or ship it ahead. Or, worse yet, go digital. Xrays can't harm a flash card. Speech over. Shoot pictures!

I'll be travelling in a couple days...I'm glad the US is putting restrictions on drinking containers and whatever they have to do to keep everyone safe...within reason - they Should be able to tell if a camera is a bomb or not (right?). I don't blame the UK for putting up these restrictions. It just happen and they need to find out from these POS terrorists what was going down. Torture? If I KNEW they were guilty...I would be damned tempted.
Anyway, I'm taking my camera and film, some books and asking nicely for a hand check of the film. I expect the lines to be long and I don't mind.
And if you sit next to me...better not be mixing, lighting or assembling anything...I'm punching first then asking what your doing. 🙂

I wish they'd just leave me alone but they wont

I wish they'd just leave me alone but they wont

Well it looks like we will all be checking our camera gear and laptops. I see a business opportunity for an insurance company to have a $20,000 luggage insurance policy with no deductable. If such a policy existed @ $10.00 a pop or so, I figure I'd just buy it and stop worrying.
Another feature could be, only the passenger could collect. Thus if the plane blew up, that would save the insurance company of paying off any of the policies. After all, would your heirs really care about replacing the photogear of their dead husband?
I don't want to sound flippant but I do really worry about losing tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment. I am a civil libertarian so I respond to the violation of civil rights issues, not to mention hating ***holes, but its really about worrying about the safety of my equioment.

I need to call my agent before I leave on my next trip.

What I don't understand (in a fundamental way) is the chemistry of "several harmless things" coming together to make something as powerful as C4.
I don't believe it. I... I just can't fathom it. How does one carry a "harmless" nitrating agent? A harmless picrating agent?
Someone's taking liberties with the word "harmless."

As far as it it known by now they didn't think about mixing the chemicals together on board.
But the chemicals you could use are really harmless. Think about acetone (nail polish remover), peroxide (hairbleach), a lot of cleaning chemicals, ammonia-based fertilizer, citric acid and the list is much longer. You can't control all this things

Does anyone actually believe our intelligence is good enough to catch this stuff before it happens? How hard can it be to plan a 911 without the government finding out?

There was an interview on Radio 4 this morning, apparently all this is because the explosives being used were of a type which they cannot currently detect. There's some bloke who's building a contraption to detect them as I type.

I just want all of this to end before my flight on Thursday... Selfish but true.

Maybe they watched McGyver too much! 😀
But seriously, there are serveral ways of mixing explosives ouf of harmless chemicals (by harmless, temperature and mechanical stability is meant) ... sulfuric acid, nitric acid and glycerine are easy to get chemicals and the base of Nitroglycerin for exsample...mixed together (I won´t go into details obviously) in small quantity on a plane the chemical reacton quickly gets out of control and you don´t even have to ignite...

As regarding the carrying of cameras in checked luggage, a friend of mine showed me his new digi p&s last month, he got it from a friend of his who is working at the airport and he told him that they do this regulary and are even taking orders for stuff!!!!! (also he insisted that the stuff is from insured luggage so they even feel like Robin hood or something! sick! )
He also told him that this happens only on small scale here at our airport but on somewhat bigger scale all over the world (esp. in poorer countries) 😡

I will pack my Mule again for future traveling

Edit: Or a Yak when traveling with my FED-2 ! 😀

From what I understand the bottles were planned to contain 95% Hydrogen Peroxide ... store bought contains about 2%

When concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide comes in contact with Oxygen it acts as a catalyst and can lead to an explosion. In a pressurized high altitude environment with a decent amount of oxygen like you would find in a typical Jet liner ... would be a situation where exposing Hydrogen Peroxide to the air would lead to such an explosion

If there is a chemist who would like to correct or elaborate go ahead ... I am just simplifying an explanation given to me by a coworker (we work in the aviation industry)

OK, good morning again.

Wow, the events of our day are remarkable and the ability we have here to discuss them in concert with voices across the globe is unique for us "regular" guys (meaning non diplomats or news folks).

The events and all of the history surrounding them are of course potentially very provocative. As we have stated before, please continue your conversation showing the utmost respect and courtesy for all of your fellow members. I am sure, I know, we have people of all opinions and beliefs here, that is one of the best parts of our community.

As always, stray from personal attacks or statements, and if we stray too far with political statements that can only lead this to flame wars which are not welcome.

Just checking in as well as reading with interest.

High intensity x-rays may well damage sub-micron transistors, as the size of the transistors are approaching the wavelength of the x-rays. Intel's latest Pentium Core 2 features a 65nm process which is only a few times larger than x-ray wavelengths (commonly <10nm). These circuits are extremely sensitive as any applied electromagnetic energy may cause them to overheat and fail.

So if somebody cries wolf and your, innocent, wife or children get beaten up or killed in the mass hysteria what will you tell the passengers? Maybe that your relatives died for a good cause?

I insist. We all should be entering the airplane Empty handed and naked. I will do that next time I fly. Just to show the world that it's possible, it's fun and it's totally safe.
In a more organized way, air attendants could distribute pre-checked, X-rayed (or gamma irradiated, to make sure no biological weapons are hidden!) and sealed paper costumes when boardxing.
Paper costumes can be sooo sexy. And healthy too.
Also, passengers should all be required to **** before boarding, and special **** filters will be used to look for the bad ****. We should be checking-in in time long enough for being able to present some ****. No ****, no boarding, ladies and gentlemen.
Once we were verifyed and only good **** was found leaving our bodies, we are allowed to further enjoy our trip.

I just want to bump this up for more to see. No issues, just thought it may be prudent.

War? When was war declared? I haven't heard it happen. I've only heard a fool say it over and over again, but to whom?

So, "the" Islamists bomb "us" (US?) into oblivion? Who's doing the bombing in, say, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon? Correct me if I'm wrong but are those islamists bombing us into oblivion?

Imposing "their" interpretation of how things ought to be? How about the US, the UK and Israel doing exactly that, with many more deaths as a result, for many more years already?

I'm not pro-Palestine or pro-Al Qaida. I hate these *******s as much as anyone; even good faithed Muslims hate these *******s. But let's get a grip here. Most Americans haven't been affected by 911 in a personal way, just in their patriotism. And now the rest of the world has to pay for that hurt feeling. If the US would spend all those billions not on a loosing war in Iraq but in really building nations and communities, the world would look much better.
